Adoption tax credit petition

Please sign this petition to keep the tax credit and make it refundable. It only takes a few seconds to sign and it can help a lot of families who want to adopt. The average adoption costs over $30,000, and while the tax credit doesn't cover all the costs it certainly helps. I know without it we wouldn't have been able to adopt our amazing son. Thank you!

Well that was inappropriate. If you don't agree with it, don't sign the petition.

I agree with Graceful.  But, could you elaborate on why you don't agree?  I'm curious.

A matter of opinion is not inappropriate. And to point out, I was in no way rude to OP. Obviously I won't sign it if I don't agree with it. Hmm This board is about interaction and the posting of many people's opinions.

Again, in no way was my opinion inappropriate. Why should some people get back $6,000 when I only get back $1,000 and I paid more than that amount on healthcare during my pregnancy? Does this mean that the woman giving her baby up for adpotion could also get a tax break for all of the healthcare costs during her pregnancy?

Not to side line the orginal topic, but the US should just convert to a sales tax. That would provide a solution to many of our growing problems about everyone paying their share of taxes, and a fair break down of where the tax money goes.

  • Many adoptive parents cover the cost of pregnancy and any health care costs that the birthmother may have. They also pay birthmother expenses that helps her with living expenses. Birthmoms who choose adoption before the baby is born usually don't pay very much if anything for the pregnancy. So just because someone adopts doesn't mean that they're not paying pregnancy healthcare costs on top of all the other expenses required. Most people pay 3-4x what the tax credit is, so its not a full refund or anything it's just something to help offset the cost a tiny bit.
