Poll: Ugly holiday sweaters

The radio station I listen to is having an ugly holiday sweater party.  That got me thinking about the ugliest sweater I've ever seen.

My mom got it for me during my first year of college.  For some reason, she thought that my favorite color was brown, because I wore a lot of muted colors.  So, I got home from school, and she came down the stairs with a wrapped package.  She was practically glowing with excitement.  As she handed it to me, she says, "Do you know how hard it is to find a brown Christmas sweater?  It took me weeks!  I think you'll really like it!"

Ladies, there is a reason that Christmas sweaters don't come in brown!

It was the color brown from your crayon box.  The front of it had a quilted christmas tree, and furry brown bears (think of the fur from your DC's touch and feel books) decorating the tree with glitter covered ornaments!

I really wish that I had taken a picture of it before I donated it to Goodwill.

So, what's the ugliest Christmas sweater you've ever seen?

Re: Poll: Ugly holiday sweaters

  • Every year my friend 'D' has a cookie exchange and invites about 50 people. D is an older friend of mine - she is about 50, so some of her friends are even older than that.

D's friends show up in the fugliest Christmas sweaters that I ever did see.  It is laughable because they think they are looking so festive. This past February I made the horrible mistake of making fun of the Christmas sweaters to D (thinking that she would agree with me because she's pretty hip).  WELL, she got so upset and said that I was never to be invited to the cookie exchange EVER again.

I apologized 100 times from February to November and low and beyond, what should arrive in my mailbox last month?  My invitation to the Annual Cookie Exchange (and fugly sweater conference).   It's this Sunday - I can't wait to see what this year will bring.

  • I've been spared an ugly sweater but I did get given HUGE Christmas Kitty Cat earings with santa hats and fake creepy fur.  Needless to say they are at the bottom of my jewelry box.

  • I loved your descriptions! That really had me laughing out loud!

  • Oh, and let me add that I thanked my mom profusely (she was so proud!) for the sweater and kept it for something like 5 years before donating it.  That's for all of you that will say that I'm ungrateful for giving it away...
  • My mom just recently tried to give me one of these sweaters only it was more of the vest type.  I really like snowmen so she bought one with those on it.  She comes in and says I got you something (very proud of herself)  she pulls it out of the bag and I just start laughing uncontrollably!  I don't know what came over me.  It was pretty bad.  I think I hurt her feelings.  Needless to say she took it back.
