How did your labor start?

Contractions?  Water breaking?  Induction?  Other?

Just curious!

Re: How did your labor start?

  • I had contractions from 27 weeks on, and I dilated to ~3 and effaced to 90% without going into active labor, so my OB brought me in and gave me meds to help me dilate overnight.  By morning I had dilated to 5 and still wasn't in active labor so he broke my water.  Both of my babies were in my arms less than 3 hours later.  :)

  • I had a slow leak in one of my bags of water starting before 30 weeks, but the day I went into labor, my water completely broke first.  Contractions started later that day.

  • I started having very consistent BH contractions around 4 p.m.  They weren't painful but coming every like 10 minutes.  I called L&D and they said to lay down for one hour and to keep track and then call back.  During that time, they were between 7 and 10 minutes apart.  They told me to come on in.  That was probably around 8 p.m.  When I got there, they checked me and I was dilated 4-5 cm.  They said I could stay.  My contractions got closer together but still not painful at all over the next few hours, like 3-5 minutes apart but when they checked me around midnight, I hadn't progressed at all.  My dr broke my water and gave me pitocin.  He doesn't mess around!  :)  That got moving right along.  My babies were born before 5 a.m.

  • I choose all of the above. Contractions that broke my water and lead to an induction.

  • Preterm labor started with contractions (that I didn't even notice at first) at 31 weeks. They were able to stop it and I went on to 36 weeks. Then my water broke.

    With DD water broke too.

Both times my water broke while I was asleep, once at 5:30am and once at 6am.

  • I think my girls would still be in there if they had their choice! I made it to my scheduled section at 38w1d. No contractions at all.

  • mine started with contractions.  It took about 6 hours for it to get to something that meant I should go into the hospital.  Even then I was only 1cm.  I had to walk the hospital to get to 4cm to have them keep me.  The doc had to break my water so it never broke.

  • I'd been having contractions 3-9 minutes apart all day/ every day since 32 weeks. I didn't even realize they were real contractions until the NST picked them up. However, they did not change my cervix, so the doctors were  not concerned.  At 36w1d, my water broke on the toilet. I had a c/s four hours later. Just three hours before, my OB checked me and I was not dilated.

  • My water broke last time so in my head I feel like that is what is going to happen this time.  I never had any contractions before my water broke.

This time I have been having BH for what feels like forever.  Last night I was having a lot of contractions but they stopped overnight.  I wish my water would break just so I don't have the "is this it?" questions that come with contractions!

I was going to ask this question too. I was induced w/my first 2 single babies at 39 and 40 weeks, but I never had any signs ahead of time.  I had a couple of contractions w/DS2 and came into induction 3-4 cm.  My labors are fast so I'm scared I won't know I'm in labor.

  • I was supposed to have a scheduled csection at 37w5d but I lost my mucus plug and had a slow leak water break a few days earlier than planned. My csection was performed early the next morning.
