2 year old allergic reaction?! Rash swollen lips?

Yesterday our two yr old had a rash on her legs and arms soon after her lips and face swelled right up we rushed her to the ER they gave her some benedryl and a steriod and she seems much better now. Nothing new in her diet or enviroment...what could this be from any ideas???

    Unfortunately, an allergy can crop up at any time. So even if a person has had a food several times before, they could develop an allergy and have a reaction, even though they never reacted before. (Same with environmental allergies).

     What was going on when the reaction happened? Was she inside or outside? Eating? Playing? Had anyone around her been eating? Do you have pets? Is she on any medications? 

    Anyway, I'd take her to a pedi allergist for testing. With a reaction like that, it sounds like you may need to have an EpiPen on hand. The allergist can do a blood test called a RAST test, it's one blood draw and they can test for multiple allergens. The regular pediatrician can order a RAST too. The pedi allergist can also do a skin prick test. They often do both to confirm the results.
