Hello ladies! As I'm standing here boiling bottles I was wondering how much your baby normally had for the first few months? I will be breast feeding/ pumping!
Also, how many bottles do you think you used a day? I have the advent 0+ up to 4pz to start with!
tia!
Re: STMs : how many ounces?
Exactly what she said. I didn't use a bottle at all for at least 6 weeks since I was BFing. Then I usually saved my milk in 2-4oz increments and never once used more than that at a time. I only ever used the small Medela bottles that came with my pump.
This. We only used the 5 oz bottles. My neighbor just had a baby and she is drinking up to 4.5 oz pumped BM already at 4 weeks old.
In this case, I would contact a lactation consultant. Also, I'd recommend not introducing a bottle for the six weeks. You need time to establish breastfeeding. Those are six weeks well spent.
I bf until DS was 19 months old and sent pumped milk at daycare until 14 months. He never took more than 4 oz at a time. Make sure you are using very slow flow nipples. We never went up a nipple flow either - he used the Gerber slow flow the entire time.
I agree with pp's though - if you plan on exclusively breastfeeding, even if you want to pump for much of the time, you are are better off to actually breastfeed without giving bottles for awhile. Babies get out much more milk than a pump ever will, so you have to use the baby to establish a supply of milk before switching between feeding and pumping. If you want to EP, it can be done, but it's possible you will have a much lower supply and end up supplementing with formula. If you plan on just pumping or pumping before 6 weeks, you might want to do some research and ask on the bfing board what other people did to keep their supply up enough.
I didn't read all of the responses, so if this is a repost, sorry! (but at least you got it!
)
This is something that several of my friends have verified was EXACTLY how it went for them (ok, maybe off by a week or a few days or something, but pretty much accurate across the board.) It doesn't really go deeply in to amounts and such, cause every baby is different, but it's good info to have on hand to help if you get stressed out!
