Bottles

I'm a first time mom and was just wondering why get 4 oz bottles when you only use them for a short time? Can you just get 8 oz bottles and fill them only as much as needed? Also, I plan on breastfeeding/pumping, how many bottles should I get? Any advice is appreciated!

    My thoughts exactly, I bought the 8 oz ones from the start. Though its not too common for a Bf baby to take more than 4 oz, but you never know. We got by with 4 or 5 bottles, but that was a bit much as I didn't work full time. We bought the Avent bottles.

    I'm in the exact opposite situation.  I EP, and will probably never need the 8 oz bottles.  My understanding is that she will probably never need to go over 5 oz of breastmilk in a feeding.  So I'm glad I didn't get the big bottles.  We will start BLW soon, and I don't forsee her ever needing a larger bottle.

    We got a couple 4oz bottles but LO didn't do well with them so when we switched we went straight to the larger bottles and just filled to what we needed.  She is now FF but has never taken more than 5oz at a time.

    We leave 4 bottles at daycare, 1 in the car diaper bag, and 5 at home.

    I'm a mom of two and I agree the 4oz bottles are kind of a waste.  I bf both my girls but when I was at work they got bottles of bm starting very early and I never used the 4oz bottle.

    My only advise is don't stock up until you know what baby will take. It took us 6 types of bottles to find what worked for DD. We ended up having success with the playtex drop-ins and I found a deal for the larger size so that is what we got, there is no rule that you have to fill an 8oz bottle with 8oz. One reason I like the drop-ins is I can get all the extra air out before DD starts drinking.
