I'm just now diagnosed at 25 weeks and the doctors are very worried it's so early. I'm getting good medical care, but I was wondering...
From when you were diagnosed with a mild case, how long were you able to last before you were induced?
Did bestrest seem to help you keep your bp down?
Did you make any other changes to help? I know you can't really do anything, but maybe you thought calm thoughts or something?
What else should I know?
Thanks!
Re: If you have or had pree...
I had it starting at 35 weeks with DS. They took me out of work, bedrest for a week, BPs came down. I was really swollen and sometimes had vision changes, but never had protein in my urine. I made it to my due date.
Just educate yourself on the signs/symptoms you should be looking for, and see where things go. Try not to stress, follow the docs recommendations about retrictions, etc. I work mother-baby and have seen people make it to term when diagnosed early, it just depends on how severe it gets. GL momma, take care.
I was diagnosed at 34w, 4d and put on modified bedrest at home for a week. At my follow up appointment, it was getting worse, so they sent me to the hospital to be induced at 35w, 4d. Bedrest didn't seem to change anything for me, but my case ended up being pretty severe, not mild.
Like othesr have said, keep an eye out for warning signs -- extreme swelling, vision issues, headaches, etc. This is definitely not something you want to keep to yourself.
How often will you be seeing your doctor now that you have been diagnosed?
Good luck! I hope you can keep your LO baking for a good long time.
DS1: Quinn - 10.22.10 and DS2: Cole - 01.18.13
Five weeks is promising. Did you get worse at 37 weeks or was it policy to induce then if you were mild? If I get really luck and don't get worse, I'd rather go without induction if I could, but I think that may not be a choice for people with pree in most practices, and probably mine...
No, I didn't get worse -- I plateaued at borderline high blood pressure while on bedrest. I basically camped on the sofa for all that time so that I could be sure to prop myself on my left side. I also had to test regularly for protein in my urine but that never got too out of control either. As I recall, I had been on bedrest so long and also had GD so I think they just wanted to put me out of my misery at that point. They gave me an amnio first to make sure my son's lungs were fully developed before they induced me. I think I could have made it possibly to my due date.
I'll be sending positive vibes your way that you make it many, many more weeks!
I had mild pre-e with both of my previous pregnancies. Both times it started at 37+ weeks. The first time I was on bedrest for two weeks with every other day office visits then induced at 39w. The second time I was told to "take it easy" but that since I had a toddler at home and am a SAHM they felt ordering bedrest wasn't practical. I was induced at 39w 2d.
This time I've had high blood pressure pretty much since getting pregnant (when not pregnant I'm 110/70). At my 20w u/s I was at 158/100 (!!!!) but they are pretty sure that was anxiety and not indicative of where my BP normally is. The next week at my regular visit I was 142/93. So they did a 24 hour urine and put me on blood pressure meds. The urine came back within normal range (protein was 125, which is normal) so right now they're treating it as pregnancy induced hypertension knowing it likely will change given my history. They have me monitoring my bp at home and logging it. If half or more of the readings are 140+ or 90+ then I need to call immediately, otherwise just keep going. They said to take it easy, but that with two kids at home they know bedrest for this long isn't possible. I already eat a fairly low sodium diet, so I'm being cautious about it but mostly sticking to what I normally do as some sodium is necessary.
Good luck and (((vibes))) that that baby stays put as long as possible!
