I am currently pumping and feeding through a bottle, while we are working out a tongue tie issue. My LC also has me pumping to increase my supply. Today is the first day I have gotten a bit more than what my LO needs to eat, which leads me to a question:
I put .75 oz of bm in a milk bag in the fridge this morning. Just now I got about 1 oz extra. Can I add that to the bag from this morning. If so, do I have to put it in the fridge to get it cold first, before adding it to the original bag? Or do I need to put it in a separate bag-which seems silly for such a small amount. But, being a newbie at this, I have no idea what to do. TIA!
Re: Storing BM ?
I am pumping ONLY to have some on hand for bottle feeding if I am over whelmed or if daddy wants a turn... so I pump and fridge... then the next pump i fridge in its own container... I combine them later when they are both fridge cold .... at the end of the day all of the days are combined to one bottle and labled with the date... usually on a good day i have 4 oz at 8pm and tey will get used over the next 8 hours
Just curious: why does the milk have to be the same temp to combine?
Because adding warm freshly pumped milk to the colder milk will warm up the colder milk. Once you warm it after it being chilled you have to use it within a certain number of hours (2 I think) or it will spoil.
