Baby Names

Coraline

What do you think of this name? Dh prefers simply Cora, but I tend to like longer old lady type names. Her NN would probably be Cora though.

The only negative association I have is that creepy movie about the girl with the button eyes.  ::shudder::

Re: Coraline

  • Ha. Coraline is on our list because of the movie with the button eyed girl. Not because we liked the movie so much that we wanted to name a kid after it, but we were both like, "that's a cool name!" :) I don't really think of it as a negative connotation at all.

But yeah, I like it. Thumbs up!

  • I like Coraline! It's so pretty and unique. I don't think the movie is a negative association.
  • I like Caroline much better.

  • We are naming our girl Cora Lynn, and imagine we will be calling her Cora Lynn! When shes older she can just go by Cora if she wishes and drop the mn :)

  • I'd assume you were a Neil Gaiman fan, or at least a fan of the movie. If you can get over it though, it's pretty.

  • It's weird because I love Cora and Caroline, but I don't like Coraline.  Also, is it true that Neil Gaiman basically named his character this because he meant to type "Caroline," but got a typo and liked it?  Or is that a myth?

  • DH and I love Coraline. It is the 3rd name on our girl list.

He tried to make a new name by mixing up the "a" and the "o" but he didn't realize that the name Coraline already existed.

  • We are using Caroline which I obviously prefer. Coraline just looks like a typo to me. I think Cora is a lot prettier than Coraline.

  • I really like both Coraline and Caroline..... my DH doesn't so they're off my list, but i think they are really pretty.

I especially like Coraline, because it's unique and can be shortened to just "Cora" as a nn.

  • I'm surprised so many people liked the movie bc it freaked me out :) But I hate scary movies of any kind. Didn't even realize it was also a book!

Caroline is a lovely alternative, but has a negative connotation, so we wouldn't use it.

  • Love the name, I've never seen the movie. This was one of our final three that we considered at the hospital after DD was born.

  • I like it. DH decided to use a family name for this baby. If we have another girl, it will probably be on our list.
  • I like Coraline a lot.
