Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovulation questions (chart stalk)

So this is maybe my 3rd or 4th ovulation cycle without birth control in like 8 years, so forgive me... but what does ovulation normally feel like?

Thursday and Friday I had some twinges on my left side, which seemed to make sense after getting very positive OPKs on Thursday.  Last night at about 6pm though, the twinges turned to intermittent stabbing pains in my left side.  It would take my breath away for a a few seconds.  That pain is gone today but I just have a dull ache on my left side, and it's just generally uncomfortable.

My question is - can these be normal, healthy ovulation pains?  I am still waiting for a temp shift, but see that it can take up to 4.5 days from first OPK+ (Thursday at 11am).  If I don't see a shift then perhaps the egg was just never released, correct?

I obviously have late ovulation this month, but I'm still breastfeeding occasionally so it doesn't surprise me.  Starting to question if my luteal phase will fizzle this late in the game IF I'm even going to actually ovulate.

(And yes, my thermometer is a flat-lining jerk.)

Sorry, I had to laugh at this, love your turn of phrase!

I think what you're experiencing is likely ovulation pain. I've had similar pain at ovulation time, often it's a persistent dull ache on one side or the other, for a few days around ovulation. Sometimes it's more sharp, in waves or just constantly there, to where it actually hurts more when I bend/sit down/get up, or even feel it more when I go to the bathroom for a bm and have to push (sorry tmi!). I even had this throughout my time on BCP, doctor said that can happen.

  • I think it can even change from month to month. For me sometimes it's a sharper pain, while other times its more of a dull ache. Usually centering on one side or the other. This month it was more of a dull ache on my left side that lasted off and on for a day or so...though I'm not temping so I can't be completely sure I ovulated, but that was coupled with a positive OPK so I'm going with it!

  • Those can definitely be normal ovulation pains, and I wouldn't assume you didn't actually ovulate. Some people feel ovulation pain before, during, and after O, and that can change from cycle to cycle. Normally the day I feel O pain matches up perfectly with when FF pinpoints O. This cycle I felt O pain the day after when FF says I O'd and the day before my temp really surged (although it was rising a bit). Good luck!

  • Most of the time I get just low dull aches.  But every three or four cycles I seem to get really bad Ov pain.  It doesn't last long, it will be just like 30 seconds of random spasm type feelings, then it goes away.
