Away from home and sick (updated)

We are visiting my in-laws for the week, seven hours from home, and DD starts running a 101.6 fever. Awesome. I'm sure it's another ear infection. I gave her some ibuprofen and we will see how she does tonight. DH's aunt works at a peds clinic 45 minutes from here. If she's still running fever, should I take her there or just to the ER here in town? It sucks having a sick kid and being away from home and our usual doctors.

Update: we got her ears looked at and she does have an ear infection. 3rd one in 7 months. I'm going to call her regular pedi on Monday to talk to her about it.

Oh, no. I don't have any advice, but I'm sorry. That would be stressful. It's stressful enough when you're at home. Hopefully, the ibuprofen will make her fever go down and you'll be able to go to the clinic your aunt-in-law works at tomorrow. I hate ear infections. V has had 2 and a UTI, so she's already had 3 rounds of antibiotics Sad

poor V! A has had 2 ear infections as well. The first time as soon as she finished the Amoxycillin, she started running a fever, so had to do another round. Then in August, she had an allergic reaction to the stronger antibiotics. It sucks. Sick babies are so sad.

I know. I always wish that I could take her pain away and then I feel so bad when she had been sick for days and I didn't know what was wrong. (When she had her UTI, she didn't have a fever. I just thought that she was teething.) Also, I've said, "Yum! Yum! Bubblegum!" more times in the past few months than anyone should say in a lifetime.

I was wondering how you knew she had a UTI. I was doing anything to make A happy in the car on the here, which included letting her put her socks in my mouth and growling at her....

  • I try to avoid the e.r. At all costs. Call the pediatrician or take her to the pecs clinic.
  • I would definitely steer clear of the ER. It doesn't sound like a true emergency and that's a Hell of a copay at least for our insurance.

Poor babe. I'd call my pedi back home and see what they recommend. I hope she feels better soon!
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

  • Poor baby! It stinks to be sick, but even worse when your not in the comfort of your own home. I hope she feels better soon!
