Horrible burning in right breast.

The title pretty much sums it up. My right breast is burning so bad I want to curl up in a ball and cry. I get some relief right after I nurse, but as I get closer to the next feeding the worse it hurts. This has gotten progressively worse as the day has gone on. Anyone have any insight for me?

*I also posted this on the breastfeeding board*

  • The nipple or the deep tissue? Do you feel any lumps or hot spots? Any flulike symptoms?

    It is deep in the tissue. No hot spots or lumps. No real flu like symptoms, a few body aches, but no fever.

    @anita - Thanks lady!

  • Do you have red streak(s)? mastitis.  A lump? clogged duct. Do you pump??  If so, I get pain from the flanges an hour or so after I pump.  I'm probably using the wrong flange size though.  I hope you find out what it is and get some relief soon!
  • I sometimes get a burning sensation in the deep tissue as well I ad it checked by my doc and there is nothing wrong. No lumps, no mastitis, no thrush. They said to do ice packs and it helps a lot.
    Get it checked out ASAP and maybe try the ice until then. Good luck and I am so sorry you are dealing with this.

    I'd assume not thrush then and watch out for mastitis or bacterial infection. Have you read the kellymom pages on both? I didn't have major flu symptoms with mastitis until after it was diagnosed. Then I felt like a truck ran over me a few times...
  • It's not vasospasm is it? Here's a link to KellyMom about it. I thinking burning sensation is one of the indicators.

    Sorry it's not clicky.

  • I looked at Kellymom about everything listed above. I tried heat, but sounds like I should move to ice. I had mastitis with my 1st, but it was nothing like this. I have only pumped twice. Guess I'll just wait it out and see if it gets better.

  • I felt that when I had mastitis.  I found if I held heat on it just before I nursed it helped my breat drain better.
