Brown Bear Brown Bear - Awesome Toddler Book

I found this book for DD at a garage sale.  OMG she loved it.   In fact she can "read" the book!  Okay she cheats a litte because she looks at the pics.  But it's such a fun toddler book.  She's 3 and loves it.   I remember it from when I was a kid, but i haven't thought about it for years!   If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend it for your toddler!

My other favorite is Guess How Much I Love You.   It reminds me of my oldest son!

Any other great toddler books out there?  I'm trying to compile a list.

Re: Brown Bear Brown Bear - Awesome Toddler Book

  • If you're an eric carle fan the polar bear book is great. Instead of what do you see, it's what do you hear and goes through animal sounds. It's really cute.

  • Ha!  Well I know he does have some weird stuff out there.  We read book about a butterfuly and a lamb..something like that and it was way weird.  It might be for older kids.  But seriously it's got great rhythem for those budding readers...brown bear, that is.
  • My daughter loved this series (Brown Bear, Panda Bear, Baby Bear) when she was younger, and would have me read them over and over. I think they're great books. She kind of outgrew them around 2 or so. She has an amazingly long attention span and really prefers books that are much longer and have more of a story. I'm now reading these books to my almost 1 year old. Sometimes DD1 will sit and listen and help "read" them to her, so maybe she's starting to become re-interested in them.

  • Sandra Boynton's books are fun - I especially like The Going to Bed Book.

We also like the Llama Llama seires by Anne Dewdney.

But I love Eric Carle- I had Brown Bear, Polar Bear, Panda Bear, and Baby Bear before LO was born. (actually, Bill Martin Jr. wrote those books. He also wrote Chicha Chicha Boom Boom ABC and 123 which are other awesome books)

  • I second the Llama Llama series. DD also likes the Are You My Cat book by Eric Carle as well. Anything repetitive that she can "read" she enjoys.

  • I was an elementary school teacher before becoming a SAHM, so our library at home is a little intense. We have a lot of Eric Carle, Susan Boynton, and Bright Baby board books. DS is totally into Goodnight Moon and Pat the Bunny right now. DD loves the Dr Suess Beginner Books and can read most of them from memory and looking at the pictures. She also likes Little Critter, Arthur, Clifford, Bearnstain Bears, and Olivia. Scholastic book orders are the death of me most months Embarrassed haha

  • DS loves most of the Eric Carle books (Baby Bear, Polar Bear, Busy Spider, etc.), Goodnight Gorilla, The Big Red Barn, Bear Snores On, The Pigeon Series (Cookie, Bus, etc.), The Llama series, The Monster at the End of the Book (I and II).

DS loves both those books! He's also a fan f Dr. Seuss read in French. Weird.
  • We have this book at home (as well as Polar Bear) and I read it to my Kindergarteners at the beginning of each school year.  It's a great way to teach colors and repetition!

  • As a teacher who has way too many kids books these are always my go to reads with preschoolers.  They love "reading" it themselves and so many concepts are in there.  BTW, the author is actually Bill Martin Jr., Carle is the illustrator.

  • DD is totally into the "if you give a mouse a..." series. SIL got her a bunch of the paperbacks last christmas and we have also gotten a couple of the holiday themed ones
  • Sorry if it's been mentioned but we also love the Maisy books.  Very simple and short so DD is able to recite the story back to us!

  • In addition to a lot of the books already mentioned, DD absolutely LOVES Richard Scarry books.  Her favorite is his Storybook Dictionary.  I'm not sure they print it anymore (our copy was a gift when I was her age) but it's a great book and she spends so much time "reading" it.
