Eliminating dairy

My DD developed a rash on her face, head, neck and chest. Pedi thinks it may be related to dairy in my diet. She wants me to eliminate it from my diet for a couple weeks to see if she gets any better.

Has anyone been through this? If so, any success with eliminating dairy? How long did you stay dairy free?

Re: Eliminating dairy

  • There are quite a few moms here who have eliminated dairy. Most kids outgrow dairy intolerance by the time they're 1 year old. Here's a link to help you look out for hidden dairy in foods:

There's a weekly check in for MSPI mamas. Hopefully shotzie comments here so you can get a link to the archives, I don't have it. It feels daunting at first, but gets easier with some diligence! GL!

  • Like pp said, there are quite a few of us who are dairy free. I post a check in on here on Mondays for dairy/soy free moms. You can read our previous posts at mspimoms.blogspot.com. You'll find helpful info and meal ideas there.

I'm on my phone, so I can't see how old your LO is. How long did she have the rash for? Does she have any other symptoms?

Ugh! I don't like the mobile site for that very reason. My DD is 5 weeks. She has had the rash for a couple weeks, but it's gotten worse over the past 2 days. No other symptoms.

Thanks so much for the information. It is daunting! I never had troubles with DS. It's nice to know I have somewhere to go for support.

  • My DD has severe MSPI issues but her awful eczema was from peanuts. Something to think about if dairy doesn't cut it.

There are lots of really tasty dairy sub items. Earth's Balance makes a soy and dairy free 'butter' that is really great. DH couldn't taste the difference and he can usually sniff out anything good for him.

So delicious makes a fantastic coconut milk ice cream and a coffee creamer. coconut milk is really great sub for dairy in cooking as long as you buy unsweetened.

    Good luck!
