Success after IF

Anyone on here gotten pregnant on their own after having to do ART with their first?

I'm just curious...not even planning on TTC #2 for a very long time, but I just wanted to know.  If so, what was your infertility problem?

  • Yes!  We have a whole list of crapola wrong with us ( most of it is in sig).  No clue how it happened but I sure am glad it did!

  • And actually, I replied to one of your other posts recently but it got deleted after I had spent like 5 minutes writing it so I got ticked and didn't type it again ;)

Short version of what I was going to say - I have a crappy AMH (.7 when I was tested at age 27) so we went back to the RE when DD was 6 mo old.  I also had a high risk pregnancy with no. 1 (bedrest from week 22 to 36 when I delivered, in hospital at 31 weeks for PTL etc) and while I know our situation wasn't the same, I was scared about TTC again out of fear the same thing would happen while I had a toddler at home!  We decided to go for it anyway out of fear that I wouldn't have any eggs left and we got a surprise BFP that month.  I would give yourself until your LO is around 6 mo and then start thinking more seriously about TTC again.  I know it's lame, but even though we are both 'young' age wise, our AMH is showing that we are getting 'old' fertility wise.

  • Saraevh - Thanks for the reply!  I am probably going to wait a little longer than 6 months to TTC, but I am cognizant about the fact that my stats are bad and I can't wait too long.  I think I have to wait at least a year between pregnancies, though, because of my c-section...or, at least, it seems like someone told me that somewhere along the way, but I can't remember if it was a doctor or just someone randomly telling me this.  I don't my DH would go for trying to TTC before our LO is a year old anyway.  I sort of want to go and get my FSH and AMH retested to find out if they have gotten "worse" in the year plus since I was last tested.

  • See my siggy. I have PCOS and it took time to have LO but  I am pregnant again and this time it happened on our own. It was definitely a shock considering I found out the day I returned to see my RE to start the fertility process again! Crazy.

  • Collectively DH and I both have things going on.  I have PCOS and an issue with my cervix (I had a cone biopsy/D&C  about 10 year ago) and he has morphology issues.  We were told we had a 1% chance of getting pregnant on our own and so we did IVF with PGD.  The RE strongly suggested the PGD.  We had planned on going back to the RE right after our twins turned 2 but instead had our little one 4 days before the twins turned 2.
  • I had one blocked tube and hypothyroidism (discovered during the IF work-up but treated with meds).  DH had low morph.  We got pg with #1 after 19 months, and on our second clomid/IUI.  When DS was 6 months old, I weaned him from BFing.  We were going to head back to the RE when he was 8 months old to get going on the testing, etc before starting again with treatments right around when he turned a year.  Well, after weaning, I never got AF, so I took a test (DS was just over 7 months old) and it was a BFP.

Then with #3, we started trying when DD was a year old.  It took 6 months for a BFP, but was a m/c.  Then another 4 months and we got another BFP, and are due in just under 4 weeks.

It is possible!  But if you don't want to get pg, then definitely use something for protection - DH and I didn't think it would happen for us (but we were open to it, obviously), and one weekend away after I stopped BFing got us our DD!

  • Yes.  It took DH and I almost 3 years of TTC, including charting for almost a year, 4 medicated IUIs, a lap, a m/c, 3 IVFs and an FET to have DS.  I got AF back when he was 9 months old, had 2 cycles, and then didn't get another.  I thought my cycles were just wacked out so went to get b/w and discovered I was almost 7 weeks pg.

We've always been kind of unexplained...although they found little things wrong w/ us, we never knew whether that was THE cause.  DH has low morph (3%), I had stage II/III endo.

TTC in 2008. Stage II/III endo, Hashimotos hypothyroid, low morph (3%).

  • Yep we have PCOS and MFI (low motility and low morph).  DD was concieved on our 3rd IUI with injects.  This baby was concieved on my first postpartum cycle.  I had gone to the RE to discuss gameplan for #2 the day before my BFP.

  • my diagnosis was ovulatory dysfunction, my husband was perfect.  it took about 9 months/6 treatment cycles and ultimately IVF for me to conceive our boys.

after they were born, i breastfed until they weaned... which was when they were 2! i got my first post-partum period when they were 20 months old and started a 28-day cycle, which i hadn't had prior to getting pregnant (but did have prior to starting oral contraceptives at age 20).  i had 5 textbook cycles and then my period was late- we had been avoiding by using condoms when i thought i was ovulating.

there was one night when i was 2 days post ovulation and we had unprotected sex- and that was it. i took a HPT on CD 30 and it was positive.  at first we were shocked- we had not yet decided if we wanted a 3rd, so it wasn't welcome news.  now we are excited to complete our family with a baby girl.

    good luck!
