Parker's birth story! *positive induction

A little delayed, but I think I remember the important things enough to share Big Smile

I had a scheduled induction for November 5th (I was only 39 weeks, but my OB offers everyone to be induced at 39, so I took the offer).

*Short background* I've been "high risk" since 20ish weeks, because they said I had a short cervix. Normal is 3.5 cm and anything under 2.5 is high risk, and I was 2.4 (sooo close!). The specialist that I saw told me I'd be lucky to make it to 34 weeks. So all this time, I'm thinking he's gonna come at any time. Yeah. Okay. At my 36 week appointment I got my first internal where I was 2 cm and 60% effaced, then 37 weeks, same. Then 38 weeks, "maybe" 3 cm.

Monday morning I went to the hospital at 6 am, checked in, got situated in my room, and then the nurse came in to get the IV in. She kept trying, and my veins would collapse every time she got it in. Every.freaking.time. She tried forever. She would say "this is the last time and then I'll call someone else in here to try" then she'd say "okay, THIS is the last time". I had told her I hate needles and blood, and yet she'd take the needle out and say "oh nooowww you want to start bleeding! This looks like a murder scene!" Nice. I got all light headed ready to pass out at one point, but she called someone else in finally and the new nurse got it in after only two failed attempts. I was stabbed a total of eight times for the freaking IV. My arms and hands were all bloody and bruised and taped up, it sucked.

Finally, my OB came in and checked me, and before anything was even started I was 5 cm and 90% effaced. I'm pretty positive he was ready to come out that day anyway, which makes me feel way better since I was a little sad to be pushing him out early.

They started pitocin around 7:30 am, I started getting contractions around 8:30 am, and DH and I watched horrible bosses and just sat around. Contractions started getting really intense, and I went to pee at one point and just started crying because one hurt so bad. So around 10:30 I called the nurse to check me because I wanted the epi, and I was 8 cm so she called in the anesthesiologist.

I have to say, I worried so much about the epi for absolutely nothing. I kept thinking that it was going to be just like the IV and they'd have to try a million times to get it in and I'd end up paralyzed or something. It took him like two seconds and he did it during a contraction so I had other things to worry about anyway. It was NOTHING. But for some reason it wouldn't go to this one spot under my belly so I could feel contractions there, which sucked a little but they weren't awful.

At about 12, the nurse came in to check me and said I was fully dilated and ready to push, so she had me do a practice push and went to get my OB because she said he'd be out in no time. It took my OB 45 minutes to get there, so around 12:45 pm I started pushing. They always say "oh good push he's coming!" but they brought me that mirror and I saw no progress. I wasn't a fan of the mirror! The birth I watched online went way faster!

Anyway, his heart rate was starting to drop because he was a little squished in there I guess, and so my OB wanted to use the suction to get him out. Which was okay with me, that was soooo much easier! At 1:02 pm Parker was born! He was 7 lbs 7 oz, and 21 inches long. And pictures!
