SIL VENT

My favorite cousin is getting married this weekend in Alabama, a six hour drive. As much as I want to be there, I decided not to put the stress on myself and the babies, who are about 6 weeks. I know it's possible, but I'm not doing it. My SIL keeps telling me we should go and it will be fine. I told her it will be too stressful, especially since they are going through another growth spurt and they want to nurse all.the.time! She said she is going and she has to breast feed too, her 10
month old, as if that's even
comparable! She also told me about a time when they took their six week old on a 3 hour trip and he was just fine. That's one baby, not two. Arrg, I wish she would quit giving me crap and acting like she knows how it is. I'm just annoyed, thats all! Thanks for reading.

Re: SIL VENT

  • You are doing the right thing. If she brings it up again you might try the soft escape, like "I'm sure it would be no problem for you, but I just can't handle it." Or tell her to STFU. Either way.

  • Also when my twins were six weeks old it was a big deal to take them 10 minutes away to my parents' house for dinner. I would not have considered a 6-hour drive to a formal event for a single second. Like I said - you are doing the right thing.

  • She won't ever get it, unless she has twins someday. Try not to feel guilty or anything, she just doesn't know what she's talking about.

  • I don't blame you.  With my oldest, it would have been doable.  With the babies, no way.

You're doing the right thing.  Do not feel bad!!!!

This.  People don't tend to think about the aftermath of an event like that.  Sure you could probably do it, and be a complete wreck while you are there. Then you still  have to come home and put all the peices back together. Not worth it in my opinion :) When the babes are older and you/SO have a comfortable handle on things...then consider it..but right now...tell her she can represent you ;)

God gave me a double portion for my inheritance with my little Mighty men :) 9/19/10 Baby A born at 1:47 am 6lbs 14oz, 20.5inches long. Baby B born at 3:20 am 6lbs 6oz, 19.5inches long. My double blessing!:)

  • :P send your favorite cousin a video of you and the babes wishing her a merry wedding day, and a nice card, and enjoy the pictures later ;)

  • I think that you're making the right decision for you and your family. (BTW I would have made exactly the same decision.) I hope your SIL leaves you alone about it!

  • That is super annoying. I couldn't even imagine making a trip like that so early. Stay home and nest and try not to think about her. :) Easier said than done I know!

  • Good call. Besides they haven't had 1st round of vaccinations. Blame it on doc

  • I wouldn't even have done that with my DD as a 6-week-old. No thanks. I'm sure your cousin will understand and your SIL can shove it.

  • k my twins are 2.5 and the thought of driving 6 hours with them makes me nauseous!  At 7 months we tried to go visit my bro (about 4hours away). yeah we didn't even get out the door!  We routinely visit my in-laws an hour away and that is more than enough for me thank you very much!

At six weeks it was a miracle we got anywhere.  Don't sweat it.

  • I would be annoyed too! You can't even compare twins to one baby.
