Britax car seat and accident

I don't post too often but I wanted everyone to know it is worth the money to purchase a Britax convertible car seat. My DD is 2 years old and last night we were in an accident. We were t-boned on the passenger side where I was sitting in the front and she was in the back. Our car is close to totaled but she doesn't have a scratch on her. Her pedi saw her immediately (accident happened in front of his office) and said she had no injuries. The car seat didn't even budge even though my seat broke and moved. We went and bought another Britax today.  They helped protect my DD and recommend them to anyone looking.  Just thought I would share in case anyone is thinking of them.....totally worth it

  • Wow,it's great to hear your lo is ok. Are you ok? I was unsure about our Britax chaperone because it's so big but this helps me to be happy about the purchase.

  • Glad everyone is OK.  I was in an accident with my DD when she was 9 months old.  Super scary!  Our car was totaled too.

Question though--did you contact your car insurance company?  They should replace the seat.  All you have to do is submit the receipt to them.

  • I'm really really glad that your baby is okay but this still doesn't mean that Britax makes the "best" or "safest" car seats.  Just want to clarify that.  All car seats go through the same safety tests.

This is only partially true.  All carseats go through the same minimum safety tests.  Many companies, Britax being one, go above and beyond in their own research and testing to increase the safety of their seats.

OP - I'm thrilled your LO is okay!  We have a Britax Blvd and love the seat and would also highly recommend it. Also, kudos to you for having LO strapped in properly and having the seat properly installed!  It's such an important thing to double check!

    All of this!

I was going to say exactly this. Britax makes nice seats with a lot of convenience features and they're very comfy for the kids, but they're not the "safest" on the market. And for many kids they're not the ideal seat. The shells on their current convertible models are shorter than many competitors so kids will outgrow them (both RF and FF) sooner than they would many other seats (meaning in many cases turning FF earlier than they would with other seats). My kids barely made it to 3 in the older generation marathon (slightly taller shell than the current generation) but were able to RF to almost 3 in a diono radian and made it past 4 FF.

That said, I'm very glad to hear that your seat performed as it should have and that everyone came out of the accident safe!

Ditto this. We were in an accident when LO was 7 months old (car was totaled, but we were both fine), and Allstate replaced our seat. We had a Chicco Keyfit, but LO was about to grow out of it, so we replaced it with a Britax Marathon. They required us to cut the straps on the old seat and take a picture of it for their records.

  • We LOVE our Britax Bouelevard 70 CS! We haven't been in an accident but it's very trust worthy. Spend the extra $$, it's totally worth you're child's safety.

My husband hit a deer in our other vehicle. Insurance said if there was a car seat in the vehicle all we had to do was purchase a new one and send in the receipt and  they would pay for it. We didn't have his car seat in the car at the time. Try contacting your insurance and I'm sure they would reimburse you for it!

    Glad yall are okay!
