Help me apply for a job I already have

My company is opening another office closer to my home early next year and just internally posted positions to staff the office. There is a listing for the same position I'm currently inalthough it may be an officer position but is same duties i currently have and I'm interested in transferring. I'm not really sure what to put on the application though. Do i just say ive been in the position with the company for x years and would like to transfer? There arent really sales goals or anything to bring up. Please help me. Tia.

Re: Help me apply for a job I already have

  • Is it a situation where networking would help? At my company, word of mouth is one of the best ways to get your name on a short list for a job. Are you open to telling your manager that you would like to transfer? If so, can she help you? If not, do you know anyone who knows the hiring manager for those positions? If it were me, in my situation, I would apply through the normal process, but also do some word of mouth networking so that the hiring manager at the new site was looking out for my name.

  • I agree with ^. You definitely want to let your manager/supervisor know that you'd like to transfer. If it's the same position, I would think it should be easy to transfer, but I know that not all business's operate on a "well that makes perfect sense to me" basis. But definitely tell your boss, but still apply through the normal process as well indicating that you would like to transfer. Good luck!

Ditto!  Get your resume together though and brush off your suit.  A transfer still may mean you have to interview and go up against externals (or other internals).

  • I expressed interest when news first came out about this office opening. I do plan to apply, what I'm asking for help with is what do I write on the application since its the same job just a different location? I have to submit internal app to hr, its a reasonably small company and networking doesn't do anything for this because people already know who I am. I just don't know what to say... I've been at x company in y role for such and such years and would like to transfer?? It's a place for me to list qualifications on the app. Get what I'm asking?
