Rear//Forward facing?

Our state law says DD can move to a forward facing car seat at 1 year, but I know the APA now recommends remaining rear facing until 2 for a lower fatality rate in wrecks. Of course I want to do that then, but she is all squished in her current one... It looks ridiculous, her feet hang out the bottom alot. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced rear to forward facing convertible one? Thanks!!

We have the Graco Comfort sport.  It gives her ample leg room.  But it is large and if you have a small car it will be rough.

there is no safety risk to their feet hitting the back of the seat, sitting cross legged, or having their legs hang over the sides - all acceptable and still safer than sitting FFing :)

We have Britax Marathons. DD2 definitely fits better in her Marathon than she did in the infant carrier, but her feet still hit the backseat. DD1 used to hang her legs over the sides of the car seat or cross her legs. She sat RFing until 2 and we never had any issue with it.
