Hard time Vent

The girls will be 8 weeks tomorrow. They were diagnosed with acid reflux and I am starting to think they are colic as well. They are always fussing and crying, especially at night.
We have tried Zantac which didn't work and Prilosec which caused them horrible gas. So the doctor said we should stop medicine and try and switch formula. They are on Simliac sensitive. But it's just not working gentlease caused a rash around their mouths and Nutramigen they won't eat, even though I mix it 75 25.
Both my husband and I are getting to our breaking point. We don't sleep and they are always unhappy. It's so hard they both want to be held and DD1 is always fighting for attention. My days are so exhauting and i dont have help until my husband gets home. Some days all I want to do is cry.
DD1 was colic but we were able to switch her to nutramigen and everything got so much better. I feel like we have exhausted our options and don't know what to do.

If you made it though this, thanks. It feels good to get it off my chest.

  • Keep up with the Nutramigen for as long as you can afford to do it if you can manage to get them both eating it - it does make a world of difference. Ask the doctor what they think about adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to the formula to help with the reflux, too. We never want to give our kids the wrong things, but a lot of little things can help. For Aurielle, the best change was putting her onto soy formula - she had lots of little issues with the milk-based formulas, and the soy was a life saver. We had Alyce on the Nutramigen because she had a lot of trouble keeping other formulas down - they did have us add just a little bit of rice cereal to her formula if we had to use a different formula when our budget was tight. It wasn't as good as the Nutramigen but it did help.

    Hang in there guys

  • Can you ask their pedi about Prevacid? It was my saving grace with my oldest when nothing else would work.
  • i wanted to cry every day too.  and every day I allowed myself 5 minutes to do it.  It was such a great release.  its not like this forever.  it will get better.

    hugs to you.

  • Hugs to you. I know you are in survival mode.....I am too!!!! My son has reflux as well. It's not as bad as your describing for your girls, but we switched him from Similac Sensitive to Gerber Soothe and have definitely seen a difference in the last week. We were also recommended Colic Calm. Just started it, so don't have a definite opinion yet, but so far so good!  Just wanted to let you know about it. So sorry, I do feel your frustration. This is THE HARDEST JOB EVER!!!

  • We changed to Gerber Soothe for colic and gas drops and it stopped. Sorry I know hard it is. It does get easier at that point I didn't know what was going on! I'm at 4 months and I'm seeing some light! Haha
  • Hugs to you......this is a hard time but it will pass...not sure how old your babies are but what you are describing sounds like what we went through from about 3 weeks to 3.5 months....one night they cried from 12am-6am!!! I thought it would really never end and felt like crying all the time...do you have any support..someone who could give you even a little break throughout the day...I forced myself to take a 1/2hr to sit in the bath with the fan on so I couldn't hear anything and just decompress. Hang in there...its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I can say we survived it and at 1 year we have 2 of the happiest boys you could ever meet who bring so much joy to our lives every day...the first few months are just a distant memory!
  • Thank you. I keep telling myself it will end soon, just hard to believe sometimes.

The girls wouldn't eat gerber soothe either. We are trying Alimentum now at 75 25 mix. Even though they don't like the taste they seem to be eating it for the most part. Hoping this will help and can get to 100 percent Alimentum soon.

  • Sorry mama this time is just so hard :( Harder than I ever imagined.  I cried on the floor of my closet for a solid half hour last week then I told my husband to figure it out and put in ear plugs and slept for three hours.  I was totally at my breaking point.  I hope it gets better for you soon!  Know you are not alone and your feelings of frustration are totally normal!

  • I just wanted to offer a hug. I was so there at that point with my girls and for us, unfortunately, they are still fussy!
