3rd Trimester

baby shower

This is a question that is just 100% out of curiosity.. I am not concerned about it or anything, just totally curious.

My family baby shower is this Sunday. There are not many things  bought of my registry (compared to how many people are coming)...in your experience do people shop kind of last minute or did you get mostly clothes, other things not on your registry?

I have all of the necessities so again just totally curious what other people's experiences are. I've heard especially since I'm having a girl I might be having a cute clothes heavy shower :)

Re: baby shower

  • I registered on Amazon and came home with about $300 in giftcards to the site.

  • I only got about 4 things off my registry.  I got mostly clothes.  I was shocked that I only got 4 packs of diapers, all newborn.  I just kept tags on some things to return later.  Also, I plan on returning some of the diapers, and getting larger sizes.

  • Sometimes the registries are not updated right away, and IMO people do shop last minute from registries.  At least for mine, someone mentioned that there was hardly anything bought off my registry.  I figured oh well, I really only registered for the basics, nothing fancy, no furniture or anything big.  I got tons of stuff for my shower, almost my whole registry purchased, and tons of giftcards.  I have a big family so we had about 100 people invited total and I think I received $800 in Target giftcards, over $300 cash and about $200 for Babies R Us.
  • I just had my shower and was worried about the same thing. Even the morning of, only a few things had been purchased. It turned out that a lot of stuff had been bought but not taken of my registry. And a lot of things were bought in place of others. For example, I got a bunch of white Carter's onesies, but I had registered for Gerber ones. Not that it makes a difference, they're gonna get puked and pooped on either way.
  • Having had a baby registry with my first and a bridal shower/wedding registry I have come to learn that most people don?t buy things off the registry?s. After spending like an entire day on our wedding registry only 10 things were bought off of it and half were from my parent?s lol. Instead we got weird stuff like 4 pet treat containers, (we don?t have any pets) kitchen pot holders and towels from the 80?s with cats on them, and things we didn?t really need or have a place for. Most people will just buy what they like. Usually at baby showers especially for girls you will get mostly clothes!

This. My baby shower is also this Sunday but I know for my bridal shower, I got a lot of duplicates because people either forgot to take it off of the registry or there was a glitch in the store's system and it didn't get taken off.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. If you get gifts you don't like/want/need, you can always return them.

  • I was registered at Babies R Us and had the same concern because there was only showing a handful of items purchased. The day of the shower I received $300 in Babies R Us gift cards and many many many more items from my registry. Since my shower was on a Sunday, it seemed everyone went to Babies R Us that Saturday to shop.

  • My baby shower was a week ago. Just to let you know, I spent soo many hours on doing my registry at Babies R Us and Target and I only got 10 items from the registries, everything else was clothes and other small things like washclothes, bottles, pacifiers, etc. thankfully I got a lot of gftt cards and cash, and I was able to buy the rest with that. But seriously, doing a registry was a waste of time.

  • I've seen a mixture. Almost all my gifts have been from my registry. Some of my friends got almost all clothes and blankets. I will add that we didn't find out the sex, so I think clothes shopping for our baby isn't quite as fun!

  • I got maybe 4 items off my registry. We are having a girl and I got A LOT of clothes. I wish I hadn't even bothered to register. I did a lot of research really for no reason.

  • My guess is that you'll get a decent amount more gifts bought between now and Sunday, people might shop on Saturday.  You might end up with giftcards too!

  • In my circle, people typically shop off the registry, but do it last minute (day of, or day before)

  • last minute shoppers, at least that was what happened with mine.

Also, if you registered at BRU they take it back without a receipt as long as they carry it in the store. :)  Helped out a lot for the doubles and triples of outfits.

This.  However, when they do it's usually last minute.
