Before we were married, DH and I talked a lot about adoption. We just always sort of knew it was right for us. Tonight we went to an information meeting and we decided we're going to start the process at the beginning of the year. I shouldn't get my hopes up, but it's exciting to think about the possibility of another baby. We aren't telling anyone IRL yet, but I'm kind of excited and needed to share!
Re: adoption meeting
Wow, how exciting! DH and I really want to adopt too, but it might be a while before we have the financial means.
Good luck to you guys - I hope it all goes smoothly!

Right now, we're pursuing domestic infant adoption through a local agency. They place 12-15 infants a year and the average wait time is 12-18 months. Of course there are those who've been in the pool for several years, but they said last night that some get placed within the first month. So, a lot of variability! The plan right now is for us to apply for DIA. We are open to any ethnicity and some forms of disability or drug exposure in the birth mother.
After two years if we still haven't been placed, we'll start looking into the foster care system. My BIL was adopted from foster care at 2 years old and DH's family fostered a teenager for a while when DH was little. I'd like to have a few more years of parenting under my belt before going that route though, both for my sake and the sake of the child, who would most likely be a toddler or older.
