Unprofessional Interviews...

So, we are interviewing applicants today for a position I had posted. The professor who's lab the work will be performed in is on the hiring committee. The first interviewee is asked a question about her experience keeping lab records/notebooks. She doesn't have any experience with this specific record keeping but goes on to describe having to keep detailed records while she was on mission (she is a Mormon). The professor responds "No conversions here!". Me and the other girl on the hiring committee bust up laughing and were still laughing 20 minutes later. He also told the interviewee that she probably switched to sociology studies just because she has good communication skills.

Before the interviews commenced he had made disparaging remarks and said a bunch of other crazy stuff. We have been busting up laughing all morning at his odd comments, bluntness and unprofessionalism.

We have another person to interview in 15 minutes. This is going to be entertaining!

Re: Unprofessional Interviews...

  • After just going through the interview process myself, I feel sorry for the people he's interviewing. I was so nervous and wanted to do a good job, doing an interview doesn't come natural to everyone. I would have felt like I was made fun of. Sorry, just being honest.

  • Yikes. I don't think that is funny at all.  That seems incredibly rude and I would have been horribly embarrassed.  I feel very sorry for the person you were interviewing.

Agreed. I find it very rude and insulting. As that person I might even file an EEOC complaint (regarding the religious comment) if I did not get the job. Your boss should shut it.

  • We were laughing because he is always saying some sort of crazy sh*t. I keep saying that he should be watching his mouth because one day he will say the wrong thing to the wrong person and he will end up in huge trouble. We are always busting up laughing though because we are used to his craziness and can't still can't believe the crap that comes out of his mouth. he has even said crap to me including  when I was pregnant "Oh that is good that it is all baby because most woman get really fat when they are pregnant". He is just nuts!

The second interview for the day went better. He just went off talking about shell-less snails (slugs) and a praying mantis he found. We still can't figure out why he is looking at slugs between the hours of 12-2 am. That conversation took up 30 mins of a 45 min interview.
