Recommend your sling/baby wearer to a new mama!

Hi ladies!  I'm still early on in pregnancy, but I have a voucher for a free sling of my choice and while DH and I plan on doing AP and I'm excited to be a baby wearing mama, I have no idea how the slings work, their differences, and what is best, etc.

If it makes a difference, I'm on the plus side with most of my weight in my stomach, so I don't know if that will change how the sling fits/how baby sits or not. (And if that sounds like a stupid statement, remember, I'm a FTM who is admittedly clueless!)  So I was hoping you ladies could give me the 411 on slings and which one is your favorite.  Thank you!!

  • I'm assuming that you're talking about Seven Everyday Slings brand. I also had a coupon, and ended up with four codes for a "free sling, only pay shipping". I asked around here, and was told the company isn't very reputable and has in fact spammed these boards, and the slings are of lower quality and the fabric feels cheap. I ended up choosing against it. I ended up with a ring sling, and prefer them over pouch slings because they're adjustable. Good luck.

  • I really loved my moby and it was way easy to use and I have an ergo which I love as well. Watch amazon for good deals I got my ergo for 70$ and it was perfect when I got it. GL

  • we bought a boba and loved it. started using it at about 3 months. by dh is about 45lbs smaller than be and it adjusts very easily for both of us. good luck
  • That sling is crap. I will ship it to you myself if you want it. I did the same thing, 2 years ago and it isn't a really nice sling at all. Like I said, happy to ship mine to you.

Moby's, ergo and kinderpak's are the best.

  • I have a Moby and an Ergo.  The Moby is great for when they are super small.  You need the infant insert for the Ergo for the first four months or so, and it can be hot and a pain.  But I do like my Ergo too.  I use them for different things:

The Moby I wear around the house while LO naps in it.  And I like it for going social places like restaurants, cafes, and parties because it keeps him close and is comfortable to either sit or stand in.

The Ergo I like for long walks with the dog because it seems more secure and stable.  Also, I like it for errands at the grocery store/Target/etc because the pouch gives me a convenient place to put my phone/keys/credit cards and I don't have to carry a purse.   I don't like to sit for long periods in the Ergo (I have the Ergo Performance).

  • Definitely skip the seven sling if that's what you are referring to ;)  My siggy link has what I think are great for newborns among the various carrier types (in terms of what to look for in a carrier) - HTH!

Also - love your siggy ;)
