Dd still sleeping in my room....I need to do something

Dd  is still sleeping in her pack n play right next to the bed.  I LOVE having her next to me.  She is at the weight limit for the bassinet part of the pnp so I need to make a move. I'm assuming I should get her in her crib in her own room but I just love having her in my room. Bed sharing sounds like a nice idea, but I really don't trust myself. Ugh I just don't know what I should do. Any advice or words of encouragement? Thanks, ladies!

  • You sound like me two years ago with DD :).  I bit the bullet and put her in her crib and she slept great, me not so much ha ha.  She went from sleeping 6 to8 to sleeping 12.  I think we were waking her up.  I moved DS at 4 months by almost 5 he has been sleeping 12 hours too.

  • My DD is still in our room, half and half in bassinette (travel crib) and in my bed.  Go check out the Attachment Parenting board for threads on bedsharing - I learned some really interesting things there that changed my ideas about bedsharing.  Not that I suddenly want to do it full time or long term, but it made me in less of a hurry to move DD out of my room.
  • My parents let my brother sleep in their bed...he is now 22 and will still crawl into their bed...usually they aren't it it, but just sayin' be careful whatever you decide to do.

Our littl eman has been in the crib from the day we brought him home and he sleeps great. usually 10.5 to 11 hours (8:30 to 7ish)...sometimes longer...but not usaully.

exactly one of the notions that has been changed - that bedsharing with an infant somehow leads to weird adults who behave inappropriately.

  • My LO was in our room till about 4 months, the first night was harder for me than her, she only woke up a few times but I definitly checked on her more than that!  She is now sleeping about 10 hours a night (minus a some wakes for her nuk)  in her own room and we ALL sleep better! She wakes up less often and I am not always leaning over every could of hours to check on her.  I also notice my back hurts less, I think rolling over and checking on her in the RnP next to my bed was doing a number on it! It might be a little hard for a bit, but I am really glad we did it! Good luck with whatever you decide to do, there really is no right answer, it's just what works for you, your baby and your family!

  • DD will stay in our room for a while. We are getting a full size crib instead of the mini crib.

  • DS is still in our room. He probably will be til 6 mths *hes 5 mths today*. He's still not STTN. He never has. He naps in his crib (or. ... I'm trying, and working on it) to get the transition to be easier.
  • I vote for keeping LO in your room - it's a reduced SIDS risk for startes :). If you are bfing then I vote for bed share, if not then I'd put LO at the bottom of the bassinet.

  • I read somewhere that babies should sleep with or near their mothers until they are at least 6 months old. I guess they did studies that showed the baby was in mild distress when not with mom. I don't trust having him in the bed with me, so he sleeps in his PnP next to the bed. I'm in no rush to move him.

  • If you don't feel comfortable moving her to the crib, why not just use the bottom part of the pack and play for sleep?

    This is a good idea.

Also maybe you could move her crib into your room if you have the space? My DS is in his crib next to our bed.

  • Thanks, ladies! I think I'll have her sleep inthe bottom of the pnp for now and then go from there. I do ebf and even though she only gets up twice now for five minutes each time, I have a feeling when I go back to work in a month and a half, she might get up more since she doesn't take a bottle.  I think my nights will be spent making up for missed meals so keeping her in my room is definitely the way to go.  Thanks again!:)
