i just found out today that i'm pregnant. my period isn't even late, i'm due in a two days or so. i just asked the doctor to test me when he was doing some other bloodwork on tuesday. i can't believe it. i don't feel pregnant. i remember feeling sore breasts last time. i'm terrified that it won't stick.
prior to this i carried to 5 months and the baby had too much brain damage and had stopped growing. then i got pregnant again shortly after that and miscarried at 8 or 10 weeks. that was a rough pregnancy because i was covered with an unbearable itchy rash and i took benadryl all the time which knocked me out.
then we were tested up and down to see what was wrong, chromosomes, every test you can imagine. nothing came up. baby chromosomes had been ok too. then we couldn't conceive for more than six months only to find out i'd stopped ovulating. then they put me on clomid. still no pregnancy.
making a long story short, i have antibodies to my thyroid but my doctors made nothing of it. my general doctor suggested looking deeper into this. it was hard getting an appointment with an endocrinologist but it didn't seem urgent. nevertheless, rather than wait 4 months for an appointment with someone who takes my insurance, i had my dad reach out to a friend and i got an appointment.
within a minute i was diagnosed with hashimoto's, which is basically hypothyroid. side effects can be tiredness, hair falling out, rashes, failing to ovulate. i had all of those symptoms. i was put on synthroid, this was about four weeks ago. i continued taking the clomid because i was so impatient to get pregnant and here i am pregnant in the very next cycle.
i can't believe it. unfortunately i'm on a high dose of the synthroid (my levels are supposedly perfect) and i'm edgy, easy to anger, and can't sleep as well as i used to. i'm a nightmare for my husband.
this is a very scary time. i won't relax until i have a baby in my arms. we were two weeks away from starting artificial insemination for a month followed by the whole in vitro hormonal nightmare injection thing. i'm so excited. please let this last.
p.s. my thyroid levels weren't flagged because they were within the normal range but looking at my numbers over time, there was a drop off. what matters is your thyroid levels, not what's "normal." i'm told doctors have different schools of thought on this but i'd say the proof is in the pudding. i'm pregnant for the first time in 14 months.
