Successful VBAC and would DEFINITELY recommend it

i haven't been on here since i had my son almost 5 months ago. but i always loved reading about successful VBACs so i just wanted to throw my story out there to give people hope.

a lot of circumstances led to my c/s with DS#1--but mainly i stopped dilating at 7cm for 4 hours and had a 103 fever so they just wanted to get him out. he was 8 lbs 5 oz and my c/s was routine with a routine recovery. not fun, but ok.

i wanted a VBAC as soon as i got pg with DS#2. my doctor and i talked and talked and he kept saying we'd see how things were lining up toward the end of my pregnancy (baby not breech, etc). all along he felt i was going to have a big baby. my water broke at midnight at 39 weeks pg and the whole day i was in labor all of the doctors were telling me the VBAC risks over and over and i just kept asking them to let me see how things went. with my water breaking i wound up with another fever. they gave me a time limit and said if i wasn't progressing enough by 6pm i would have a c/s. at 6pm they came in, i begrudgingly asked if it was c/s time and they said "nope-babys head is right there, you get to try and push". i was THRILLED. 2 hours of hard pushing later, i had a 9lb 12oz baby (i'm only 5'2" also). i definitely tore and definitely had some tough parts of recovering --especially chasing my 3 year old. but having a VBAC was still the BEST choice i made!! i was sooooo happy. i would choose it all again in a second--and i had a pretty long labor (20 hrs) and big baby!

the recoveries were different. both hard in different ways. but i just kept telling myself that i was meant to recover from a vaginal birth and it was all so much less intrusive than being cut open.

i know not everyone can have a vbac or has a choice...but if you're trying to decide if you want to do it i 100000% suggest trying!!! you'll never know if it can work out until you try

Great story!! Our babies are about the same age and I'm still thrilled with my VBAC 5 months later. At least once a week, I think - "WOW, I really did it!" It's one of my great accomplishments in life.

Congrats on yours and way to stand strong! I can't imagine having to fight my provider the whole way through.

i totally remember you from this board when we were pregnant happy yours worked out too! i also just think sometimes how amazing it is that it all worked out. i feel SO lucky. having had both experiences, i also meant to add that i felt the vaginal birth was so much more personal and connected than having surgery hidden behind a sheet where i was just another belly they sliced open. i LOVED it!!!
