I haven't been away from DS yet. He's now 18 months, but still nurses pretty frequently. I mostly night weaned last weekend, so we're down to early morning (5 am), slightly later morning (6:30 or 7:30), after work (4) and before bed (7:30).
I have a hand pump and a double
electric. What should I bring? How often should I pump? I'll just have
to pump and dump as it isn't worth the complication of bringing it home
for a kid that doesn't take or need bottles. I'll be gone 3 days / 2
nights.
Re: XP: Work travel, nursing toddler, pumping?
I recommend bringing along your electric pump. So much easier and faster!
Good luck, and have a safe trip! I haven't left LO yet either, and I would be so nervous! Everything will be fine and you can count on extra snuggles when you return!
Yeah, um... not happening. I will not have anywhere to pump, and I've never pumped during the day. The whole upside of the trip is going to be sleeping for 7 or 8 hours in a row!
I'll pump at least morning and evening, and maybe once more, I think.

I think at this point you could get away with just using the hand pump as needed for your comfort. You aren't going to stop lactating in 3 days, and he can boost your supply when you get back if he needs to.
Personally, though, I'd probably bring the electric and pump when I got up, after work stuff is done/around dinner time, and once more before bed. My LO still gets so much actual milk, not just comfort sucking, that I think I'd feel better about that.
How did nightweaning go? Have fun!!
He is definitely still getting quite a bit of milk. He's a small solids eater, and he's still alive, so it's got to be the milk!
Night weaning was easier than I expected - he will go back down without nursing, and within about 5 minutes even without intervention, but he's still not quite STTN. I feel like we're getting closer, though. He did also start eating more solids within a few days of night weaning, which is probably good. I was getting to the point where I was really resenting getting up 2-3 x a night (bedsharing was worse, as he will give one cry in his sleep even more frequently). Now, nursing feels like an asset again rather than an obligation.

I was in a similar situation with DS at 18 months. I had just cut out my last pumping session at work, and we were down to twice in the morning, after work, and before bed, with an occasional night session thrown in. I was gone for four nights and ended up pumping once in the morning, once in the afternoon (before dinner) and once in the evening. I was terrified that my supply would plummet and that DS would wean because of the trip. Thankfully, none of that happened and we are still doing fine. I also wanted to add that I ended up bringing my double electric. It was a hassle to lug through the airport but I respond much better to that then the manual.
That's awesome! DD likes to mess with my mind. She'll have a bad period of sleep and I'll get all resolved to night wean, and then she'll start sleeping more again, so I lose my nerve. Right now she's sleeping until 5:30 or so and goes back to sleep until around 7, so I'm cool with that for now.
