Anything to be more comfortable?

Any suggestions on how to be more comfortable these last few weeks?  I'm talking about the usual heartburn, insomnia, bathroom trips every thirty minutes, swollen hands, sore back, etc. . . please :)

  • I'm not sure if there is a fix but I pretty much stick to my regimen of drinking TONS of water (which only increases the bathroom trips), tums, and chiropractic care for my pelvic/pubic bones and back...

Rarely do I ever feel 100% comfortable to be honest, but I know it won't last forever - just know you aren't alone!

  • For heartburn I ended up getting a prescription for some med or another (I forget the name) but it was AWESOME and did the trick. As your doctor. My best advice for swelling and general discomfort is to find some way to soak in water. Ideally a pool because you will have substantially better results but a bathtub will be better than nothing. The water pressure forces the excess water in your feet and hands out (which is obviously not the medical definition but somehow it works) it is also glorious to have the water carry the weight of your belly instead of your back. The best news of all is that once your babies are born you will feel mostly back to your old self in terms of being able to breathe and move. GOOD LUCK!

  • Rest. I sat in our recliner pretty much 24/7 the last few weeks.

I also took Nexium for my really bad heartburn/reflux and it was HEAVEN.

  • The last few weeks are hell and there really isn't any way around it.  Just try to stay off your feet as much as you can, drink as much water as you can possibly drink (because going to the bathroom every 15 minutes is MUCH better than going into labor because you are dehydrated), eat tiny portions of food every couple of hours to help with the heartburn, and sleep in whatever spurts you can.  For the last 3-4 weeks I would sleep for 15 minutes, wake up for 2 or 3 hours, sleep 15 more minutes, rinse, repeat all day and night (I was on bed rest so I didn't have anything better to do).  I was half insane from exhaustion by the time I delivered.  Actually, my extreme sleep deprivation was the #1 reason I begged to be induced.  People laughed at me when I said I couldn't wait for my babies to come so I could sleep.  I wanted to punch them in the face and they all got a big fat "I told you so, haters" when I did, in fact, sleep 1000x better after I delivered.

I have never in my life been as miserable or in as much pain as I was the last few weeks of my pregnancy, but it's all just a blip on the radar now and it was so worth it.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

  • Childbirth. Kidding.

The only thing that helped me (I was uncomfortable 24/7) was taking my doctor's advice in taking two antihistamines before bed. That way, I slept for more than an hour at a time. Besides that, I just tried to spend as much time as possible in bed or in the shower, the only two places I didn't hate towards the end.
