Nursery ideas for boys

Hi Ladies,

I'm really struggling with coming up with some ideas for a boy nursery (or gender neutral).  All of the 'theme' bedding that I've seen just isn't doing it for me (trucks, airplanes, animals, alphabet, etc).  Any suggestions on websites or blogs that could give me some better ideas?  Decorating in general is not my thing, so I definitely need some help in the creativity department.

    Maybe just go with colors? babybedding.com is a great inspiration website. PB kids also has some good non themed bedding. We are basing our colors off a lamp from my childhood bedroom. Do you have any items like that you are planning on using in the baby's room to guide you?

    This. We are doing light blue bedding (for our DD), the crib is white and dark dark brown, and I am planning on making a large-scale abstract collage for one wall. The walls and carpet are off-white, and are not changing because we rent and baby doesn't care. Besides, baby's toys will add nice pops of color.

    You can always find cool wall decals if you don't want to paint, and it is much cheaper and less stinkier.

    The way I always start when I want something to have a theme is to find one item (blanket, picture, card, etc.) and use that for inspiration. If you found a cute blanket that was for a boy or gender neutral, you could use the colors, pattern, objects (like if it had monkeys and you wanted to use that).

    You could look through baby clothes, blankets, even the fabric dept. for some ideas. Just make sure to get a sample of whatever your "item" is so that you can carry it with you and match the things to it. :)

    I am not doing a theme.  I taught first grade so I think I'm over themes!  I am doing orange and turquoise with a gray and white chevron print.  I designed my own bedding on babybedding.com!

    I'm not big on themed bedding regardless of the sex, i think most of it is ugly and cheesy.  Check out www.projectnursery.com for lots of great ideas.

    We're not doing theme bedding, because I agree that lots of it is kind of cheesy and not really my thing. However, we are thinking of doing a lost boys Peter Pan nursery theme for our baby. I'm thinking London stuff, vintage treasure maps, pirates, etc.

    Another idea that I'm considering is a loose Toy Story theme. We'd do clouds on the ceiling, wainscotting on the bottom half of the walls, and some classic toys on the bookshelf.

    I've also seen some super cute retro sports and cowboy themed nurseries.

    I struggled with this as well.  I found good options on PB Kids and baby bedding.com. The second site is carousel designs and they have lots of non themey stuff that you can even customize.

    I found really awesome robot prints...not typical weird robots haha..on Etsy and did the rest of the room with a great color scheme and some stars...lantern, sheets...

    Pinterest is great!

    I might suggest choosing bedding that is solid in color or had a colored pattern rather than a printed theme like you mentioned. You may have to search and order on linebut that can open the door to lots of "theme" decor in the room.

    We will be using neutrals in the bedding since we are combining our 7yo DS and the baby. My son wants an outdoor theme to the new room but I refuse (although I love camo) to buy camo bedding for a baby!!

    I say...stick to solids on the bedding and make the room with the other decor you select.

    I felt the same way and thought maybe I'd be better off just picking colors and going from there. I recently fell in love with the Harper collection (I favor the navy) from pottery barn kids. It's so simple and sophisticated I think. I'm currently hunting to see if I can find something similar that is more budget friendly.

    We are doing the blue & taupe paisley from babybedding.com. It's in the gender neutral section of the bedding. I'm not big into character bedding. The baby's room is very small so I wanted it to be simple, sweet and serene colors. When he gets older, I will let him pick ninja turtle or whatever type of bedding he wants then but right now I'm choosing serene :)

    I did a "theme" for my daugher but I definitely going more unique with this little boy nursery.

    (it also has where she got everything from the nursery listed below, although the etsy shop that she lists for the bedding is really expensive (like $600 for the whole set..no thanks!) 

    Here is an ETSY shop where you can customize sheets, changing pad covers, etc, and it doesn't seem to be much more than what you would buy in the store.  I'll probably get a solid color breathable bumper like I did with my daughter from toysrus.
