33 Weeks and still cooking

Despite what my ticker says, today is 33 weeks and I have officially been on hospital bedrest for a week. To be honest, it has actually flown by a lot quicker than I would have expected.

Not much new to report really. My BP has stabilized for the most part. I am not sure exactly what the numbers mean, but my bottom number (the bad one?) seems to always be in the good range now, but the top number is creeping up occasionally. I can tell when I have been sitting up for too long and need to lie down. I am trying to drink as much water as I can but getting in and out of bed to pee is killing me. : )

My OB ordered another 24 hour urine screen and my MFM will be by in the morning for another growth scan. Everyone seems pleased that we made it to 33 weeks so now we are trying to make it to 34 weeks.

I have now lost 15.7 lbs of fluid since I have been in the hospital. That is just crazy to me because it means I have only gained 15.3 lbs total for this pregnancy. My OB was not concerned since the girls are growing so well, but that is just bizarre to me. Especially when I look at how huge my belly is with almost 10 lbs of baby in there.

Mentally, I am ok. I just really miss my fur-babies who are home all alone. My mom goes in every other day to feed them and change the litterbox, but I really, really miss them.

  • Sounds like you're in the best place for you and your babies. So glad you're doing well and have made it this far. Thanks for the update!

BTW, I might have missed past posts but how did you lose 15+lbs of fluid in the hospital?

  • Part of the reason I was admitted to the hospital was due to severe edema. Apparently I was overdoing it in my regular, daily life. Once they put me in bed and kept my feet elevated, the fluid started coming off. It amazes me as well. They did not give me any meds for it. I am watching my sodium a little more carefully but I'm not on official dietary restrictions.

  • Glad to hear you're doing so well, considering. I would miss my pups terribly if I were away from them, so I empathize with you on that one. Hopefully this next week will pass quickly too and you can look forward to 35 weeks, and maybe getting better and going home!

ETA: The numbers of your BP: The bottom number is the diastolic pressure. This is the pressure that's constantly in your pipes (blood vessels) at any given time.
The top number is your systolic. This is the number that represents the pressure in your pipes as your heart contracts and pushes more blood through the system.
If your top number is too high, that's a problem because with every heartbeat you're getting a rush of pressure into the system.
If your bottom number is too high, that's a problem because the baseline pressure is too high.
While they want to see it lower, no single reading is problematic, it's the trend. Your body can actually tolerate very high blood pressures, for small periods of time. So if one number is high at one reading, don't get too worried - it's always about the trend.
I'm glad you're listening to your body and resting/drinking when you need to be! Take care!

  • you're doing awesome! i wish i had weighed myself after a week in the hospital, that would have been interesting. i'm sure i lost a ton of fluid too. our timelines are exactly the same - i was admitted at 32 weeks on the dot but delivered at 33w2d, so I'm glad it looks like you're doing better than me. :) i swear if facebook had been around back then, i would have done MUCH better, but i think the boredom in the hospital did me in. ha!

  • Glad that you're still pregnant!  I hope the BP stays stable and your 24 hr urine check passes.  Any talk of letting you go home or are you stuck there until the girls are born?  Hang in there, I spent about 4.5 weeks in antepartum and it seems like forever at the time but now that I look back it was just a blip in time.
  • Hang in there! Sorry about missing your kitties - that would be so hard for me too, plus don't they lower your bp? :) but all for the best for the babies and your health!

My SIL had her triplets at 33w2d as well. They were 4.8, 4.9 and 3.10. The boys are identical and had TTTS. they are 9 now!!

As of this morning, I am now down 17 lbs since I checked in 8 days ago. It blows my mind.

My second urine screen was 600 so up a teeny tiny bit from last week, but still very mild.

I am eternally grateful for Facebook.
