What were your baby's symptoms? Did you give up dairy first or get LO screened by the pediatrician first? Did you give up all hidden dairy or just the big culprits? How long before you noticed a change in LO's behavior?
I think we may be dealing with this. Thanks!
Re: Milk protein intolerance ladies
I think we might be dealing with this as well. What formula did you switch to? We tried Nutramigen but he absolutely refuses to eat it.
This except for the rash. It took forever to make it through a bottle do to crying and back arching (wasn't due to reflux; we tried Zantac first.) We switched to soy formula and within 24 hours was a complete improvement. That was 9 weeks ago and we have had no issues since.
At first we switched to Similac Alimentum..she hated it. Try mixing 1/2 her old formula 1/2 hypoallergenic and slowly take away the regular formula. Once she gets used to it she'll eat it. We just switched to soy. It is working great so far except it makes her poop really solid. We give her a bottle of 1 part prune juice 3 parts water in the morning. It works great. Keep in mind 30% of babies that can't have cow milk also have issues with soy. So if you switch just keep an eye out for the old symptoms. GL
We're still in the middle of this. LO has been on Similac Sensitive since 3 weeks (now 12 weeks) and about a week and a half ago suddenly started with terrible screams and cries at bed time, projectile vomit/spit-up, and stomach pain. No rash or poop problems.
Tried Gerber Gentle, but that gave her the worst gas and made her scream just as much. Traded one problem for another.
Now trying Similac Sensitive. Giving it a few days, but thinking soy or Gerber Soothe.
Our doc had us use Pedialyte for 4-6 hours to help flush her system and give her tummy a break before introducing formula. One nurse said to make the 1st two bottles of new formula half strength (double water), then continue mixing and feeding as normal.
Have any of your doctors given reasons that the milk protein problem could randomly appear or get worse when everything seemed fine for awhile? Or any reason why it's worse at night?

tried similac adance, LO threw up everything!!! Then, similac soy (made LO really crabby, so I think she had gas). Similac Allmentum, she wouldn't even drink it. Now we are using Enfamil Prosbee mixed with breast milk. I usually do 2 oz formula mixed with 3 oz breast milk and so far so good.
It just seemed like colic and reflux here. Zantac wasn't working so I have dairy free a shot. Three days in, we saw a big difference. Way less crying.
Three weeks saw no crying. 5 weeks and no Zantac.
Edit: kiddo has no issues with soy and I stay away from hidden dairy as much as humanly possible. Thank goodness many dark chocolates don't have dairy.
