Angelcare Monitor?

Thoughts on this? Worth it, not worth it? We're trying to finish the registry and DH is asking if we need this.

Re: Angelcare Monitor?

  • We got two from our registry, and we don't use them. The movement monitor is way too sensitive so it screeches every few minutes, not matter how we calibrate it. Somebody told us it's because we have springs under our mattresses in the cribs, and you have to have plywood for the Angelcare to work properly. We would use it as a sound monitor if the babies' nursery wasn't just down the hall from ours. We keep both doors open during the night and hear them if they stir, so we really don't need it.

  • i loved mine with my first, but i wouldn't call it a need.

i won't be getting a second as i am looking for a video monitor this time.

  • I didn't like mine.  They made me more paranoid.  I agree that it is not a need but iof someone buys them for you then you can try them out.  I wish I would have got the Snuza monitors instead.

  • We got them (obviously haven';t used them yet) as it came highly recommended from a friend whose little girl hadn't yet, and probably wouldn't have been, diagnosed with sleep apnea. From the time the baby girl came home, she would stop breathing in the night, the alarm would go off and her parents would startle her into breathing again. My friend reported this to the pediatrician, baby girl went in for a sleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea and put on a cpap machine.

Honestly, this was enough for me to get one for each baby. My friend is a believer that her baby girl may have passed from "SIDS", or sleep apnea, had the monitor not been used and that's not a risk I'm willing to take with such helpful tools available. We got the one that is just the movement monitor, not the baby monitor as when the movement monitor is no longer able to be used (baby rolls over), the sound/video monitor cannot be used either.

I don't mean to scare you but if you're considering it, above is a true story to consider.

  • We have them and love them.  We never get false alarms...ever.  We almost went with the Snuza but I'm glad we didn't because a friend of mine has one and her 9 month old has already figured out how to pull it off his diaper and it's now completely useless.

We have them and liked them. We only had one false alarm per each child during the first year when we used them and that's because they scooted themselves to the very edge of the bed where it couldn't pick them up. We followed the advice and have a sheet of plywood under each mattress.

They did help me relax a lot, especially when the kids were sick...but we stopped using them at about a year because DH (nicely) told me i need to let go :0P and we were starting to get more frequent alarms from squirmy babies. Now we just have the sound monitor and i wish we had something more..like video...so i could make sure they are ok in there. Paranoid...i know.

Long story short...i liked our angelcares a lot, but would opt for the video also or instead.

PS--they only work in cribs...not bassinets, pnps or rnps...so maybe keep that in mind.

This! I actually wasnt going to get them but did last minute and am so glad I did. They give me such peace of mind. Only 1 false alarm due to squirming as well. We also have the video monitor and I love the combo of the 2!
