Frozen breastmilk

So, does anyone scald their milk before freezing it? I made a bottle for G last night. We're trying to get her used to it before I go back to work. I noticed it smelled off. Soapy. So I tasted it and it tasted like it smelled. I threw it out and warmed another 4oz, and it was the same. I've read that this can be an issue due to an enzyme in the bm. The solution is to scald the bm before freezing. Has anyone done this? Or had the same issue? I'm thinking my freezer stash will be for emergency, and pump what she needs to just keep refrigerated. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue. I feel bad giving G something I think tastes bad. Fresh or refrigerated bm is definitely more palatable.

I didn't find out I had this issue until DD was 10 months old. She always takes/took frozen milk just fine so I never had reason to suspect it wasn't good. I did scald my milk a few times after that, but then I figured, why waste the time if she drinks the milk anyway? It's not harmful to them, it just tastes rank. I found that my milk only tasted fresh for about a day in the fridge before it started getting funky. If you decide to scald, i'd just do it at the end of the day w/everything you pumped that day. Then into the freezer.

I had this issue when bf'ing. Excess lipase.

If your LO will take the frozen milk, there is no need for you to scald it. If lo won't take it, you can donate it to a milk bank like I did.

To scald just heat it until it's just to a boil. Cool and freeze. Scalded milk cannot be donated to a milk bank and you cannot scald milk that's been previously frozen.

DD will still drink it, I just feel bad because it tastes and smells awful to me. I'm also bummed because pumping is about my least favorite thing to do, and it's taken a lot of effort to build the stash that I have :[

My DD drinks it too but she doesn't like it as much. It takes her much longer to finish the thawed milk bottle than a fresh. I find that if I make the bottle half thawed/half fresh, DD likes it better.

Mine ended up being from handwashing the collection bottles/pump parts. I'm guessing they weren't rinsing clean. I switched to the Medela bags and dishwasher only and it worked for the smell/taste issue.
