XP - Vacation Suggestions?

XP from Birth Month Board...

Ok, so as of yesterday, I am deemed high risk and not allowed to work anymore.  The relief of not having to worry about work anymore is offset by the disappointment that DH and I cannot go on our vacation to Curacao in a few weeks.

Dr. said I can still travel... just not out of the country (Canada).  Though we might be able to get away with this US.  We were both really looking forward to a relaxing beach vacation (normally we're very active in the ocean).

Does anyone have vacation ideas for us?

  • Whereabouts in Ontario are you?  'Cause there are some super-cool things - depending on what and where you feel like travelling.  I know of some super-awesome B&B's in Southern & Eastern Ontario, and there are lots of things to do in between.

Or do you still want to do the Ocean thing?  If so, hopefully some of our American friends can suggest some US awesomeness at this time of the year....

  • The Florida Keys are awesome this time of year and I think it is still their off peak season if you were thinking something tropical.  If you fly into Miami, you can rent a car and leisurely drive down to Key West. It is a beautiful drive!

I'm 1/2 way between Toronto and Niagara.

Only idea I have at this point is Mont Tremblant, but I don't know much about the area.

So if you're driving from the Hamilton/St. Catharines area (I lived in the Golden Horseshoe for 35 years), you'll have a wee bit of a drive, but you could always take the train to Montreal or Quebec - Via just had a sale for 50% off.  And the train is just so civilized!

Quebec, meaning Old Montreal or Old Quebec city will have lots of romance in it, with lots of history and yummy french pastries - and Mont Tremblant or Mont Sainte Anne will be really cool (also check out the Montmorency Falls).

You could also do an awesome resort up in Muskoka (closer to Huntsville) - Trillium Resort - that's where we spent our mini honeymoon - extremely relaxing and unbelievable cuisine (all inclusive).  I highly recommend the "Falling Water Chalet".

If you did feel like flying, there's always - Banff, Jasper, and the Okanagan Valley - anything in that area - you really can't go wrong with the Rockies at any time of the year.  (You could always do an Expedia or Travelocity package out here or even in Quebec.)

Good luck and let us know how the planning goes and where you decide on going!

Not much in tremblant this time of year besides hiking and if you're high risk you prob don't want to overdo that.

were looking at December and DH would love to ski if possible, I'd be content to sit and relax or spa...  When does skiing start in tremblant?

  • There's skiing in Tremblant in December.  Whether it's open in early December depends on the weather, but by mid/late December there should be more than enough snow.  If you want to go somewhere in early December there is almost always enough snow in at Orford.  I can't comment on the spa services there as compared to Tremblant there because I've never tried them.

Also, I don't think I'd want to go to the US in the middle of a high risk pregnancy without insurance.  If God forbid the worst happen and you go into preterm labor while on vacation you'll end up with a pretty serious hospital bill.  I read about a Kiwi couple who ended up unexpectedly having a micropremie while on vacation in FL.  The bill for just the mother's care before and after the birth and the emergency c-section was in the neighborhood of $60k.
