Going back to work after...

I currently work from home managing social media for several websites so nothing too hard. I work about 1520 hours a week but only about 5 hours is absolutely necessary of scheduling content.

Tomorrow I have to get on the phone with my boss to talk about maternity leave. I feel like I would only need maybe 3 weeks off of absolutely no work and then could go back to doing the 5 hours a week that I need to do for a bit and then eventually back to my 1520 hours a week around 6 weeks pp.

Does that sound doable? My husband told me I can go into my office so I can get my 5 hours of work a week done at 3 weeks pp and I figure it might be nice to get away too. I'm just trying to work it all out in my head before talking to her!

  • More power to you if you can do that at 3 weeks pp.  I'm not even sure I could remember my own name at 3 weeks PP.  I didn't go back to work until mine were ~3 months old.

  • Haha, see that is what I'm thinking will I even be able to handle that? I can't even remember with my son and I didn't go back to work with him until he was about 2 and that was when I started my working at home job.

  • Can your work at home time be done after they are in bed at night?  I only ask because I can't imagine ever having time to work at home for 20 hours a week as their sole care giver even when they are 3-4 months old.  It's just too crazy just getting through the day.  Maybe during nap if you can get them to nap at the same time.

I would give yourself at least 6 weeks even for the 5 hours a week.

  • I would say that 3 wks may be hard as you are only getting short bursts of sleep and that is if they sleep at the same time. At 3 wks, their naps are when you shower, eat, sleep lol. Good luck!

  • Speaking from experience, as that was my exact plan (and my job also entails social media), I think NOT! My girls are almost 3 months and I'm still barely able to get showered and get myslef fed some days, let alone trying to work. I can get things done after they go to sleep around 7 but by 9 or 10 I'm ready to go to bed myself. My girls also nap a lot in the mornings so I have a little bit of time then. My mom and I were just discussing this today. She's going to start taking one baby for an hour or two in the afternoons so I have a little break. Its amazing what I can get accomplished when I have one baby, rather than 2.
