Transitioning to Sippy Cup

Have any of you started? If not, when and how do you plan on doing it? DS has drank water a handful of times out of one but it seems like the flow is still to much for him, it just runs down his chin. But I loathe Dr Brown bottles (just the washing part) so I am anxious to transition to a sippy.

Re: Transitioning to Sippy Cup

  • We started giving DD the sippy with water a couple of months ago. For the most part she just played with it, then shed start taking sips. By no means is she perfect with it now, but if we hold it up for her, she can drink a fair bit before it's running down her chin.

  • DS did get wet at first but I found the ones with the straws are a lot easier for him to control.

  • Olivia always loved the straw cups and Natalia finally got the hang of them a few weeks ago.  They'll drink water out of them all day long but don't like formula in them for some reason.  I'm thinking of offering WCM only in the sippy cups when we make that move.  And instead of offering them water with their meals I've started making their bottles early and offering them formula in the straw cups.  At first they wanted nothing to do with it, now they'll drink about an ounce.

  • DS started on them a couple of month ago but didn't get the hang until maybe a month ago.  Once he got the hang of tipping the cup and sucking on the sippy part I changed him to a no spill sippy cup that he has to bite the tip for water to come out (super easy to transition).

Then when I fed him a pouch of food a week ago I showed him how to feed himself by letting him old the pouch and bite on the top while I squeezed the pouch.  He totally got the hang of it in a couple of minutes.  After that I tried a sippy cup with a straw (which I had tried before but he just chewed on the straw), and he drank from the straw like a pro.  Now he always drinks from the straw!

  • We use the straw cup with water and DD still gets wet because she sometimes drinks too much and forgets to swallow.

Also, sippy cups are a bit of a pain as well because they have little parts that get dirty as well.
