Babies: 9 - 12 Months

weaned babies sleep question

DD had just recently started losing interest in bfing so I'm pretty well dried up but napping and bedtime is an issue. She doesn't want to nurse and yet still puts up a fight when I try to rock her to sleep. she cries for an average 10 minutes before dozing off. I was just wondering how those of you with weaned babies get them to sleep now. I'm hoping this won't go on into toddler years. Thanks in advance :

Re: weaned babies sleep question

  • what happens if you don't rock her at all?  I haven't nursed to sleep since 5 months or so, but there came a time where she didn't even WANT me to hold her before she fell asleep, so I just put her down and she falls asleep on her own.  You may want to take this opportunity to also wean her from needing to be held to fall asleep

  • Hmm I never even considered that. I will try it. I have a feeling she will fuss until I pick her up though. She has a very persistent personality

  • Maybe it's because I have twins but I've never been one to rock to sleep unless they're sick or teething bad. I usually just kiss them good night and put them down. If they cry for 10 minutes that's not too bad as long as she's falling asleep.

Ditto this.  If really tired (but not OVERtired) they don't cry at all.  Otherwise 3 to 10 minutes on average.
