My LO is 9 weeks old and I've been dairy free for about 3 weeks now. I think it's made a significant difference - her poop usually isn't green anymore, she spits up less (some days), and the biggest difference is that she's much more content and sleeps better during the day (has always slept ok at night).
There have been a couple of times I've eaten out and I think had some hidden dairy. The next few days, LO spits up more, is more fussy, and has a diaper or 2 with a tiny bit of blood. So my 1st question is, how long do you usually see symptoms after you eat something with dairy?
I'm also wondering if LO's poop is 'normal' now since I've cut out dairy. It's still really liquidy all the time and I think mucousy sometimes. I guess I would says it's usually explosive too. Is this normal/healthy?
Thanks!
Re: FTM/MPI questions
Are you breastfeeding? If you are breastfeeding, poop generally is pretty liquid at first. It should be a mustard color. You might also consider an oversupply if you are breastfeeding as a lot of oversupply issues are falsely labeled as milk/soy intolerance when there isn't visual blood present. Obviously, when you can see the blood its probably an issue, but if its just coloring and consistency that might be one cause.
If I get dairy DS will usually start showing symptoms at the next feeding and it will last a day or two depending on what I got and how much.
The two times I've seen a definite reaction they happened about 12hours after I ate the offending food and lasted 12-24 hours.
With the poops, if it is/was a MPI issue LO's gut might have been beaten up before you realized there was a problem so the poop can be weird for a while. Have you added in an infant probiotic? There are a few that are dairy free (kids culturell (sp) and solaray come to mind) they can help the healing in your LO's belly.
