Sleep

Am I doing something wrong? The post a few down really sent a wave of jealously through me... My little one has never gone more than 3 hours sleeping and that was a rare occasion. How are your LOs sleeping so long at night? He is up constantly wanting to feed or seeming distressed. I am exhausted! He naps some during the day but not enough for me to get a break at all. What are your day routines like for those of you whose children sleep longer stretches? I am desperate for any advice!!

Re: Sleep

  • Well, it's going on our bed time so I really hope I'm not going to jinks myself for writing this but, the halo sleep sack has been a life saver for me. Before she would only cat nap, now at night she sleep around 3-4 hours then i feed and change her and then she'll sleep another 3-4 hours. A few times she has even slept 5-6 hours. However, not sure how long that will last. She is starting to learn to brake her arms free if I don't wrap her tight as you can see in the pic below.

  • Lots of babies do 3 hour stretches until they're older. Every baby is different, and don't compare yours to everyone elses.

My LO has a pretty solid eating schedule and eats at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 8:00-9:00 p.m. Then he gets up at 4:00 a.m. to eat again. He sleeps about 6-7 hours every night. Also, he is 7 wks old and eats 6 oz. per feeding.

  • If you're doing it "wrong" then so am I.  I have gotten a couple of 5-hour stretches from DS but it's rare.  I figure when she's a teenager and sleeping all the time, I'll think back to these days.  This too shall pass!

After 5.5 years of loss, heartbreak, and empty arms, our dreams were fulfilled through the beautiful, selfless gift of adoption. We are amazingly blessed!

  • Not sure if this will help or not but have you read into the baby whisperer book? I was struggling with my LO when he was about three weeks old with him never wanting to sleep during the day and waking twice a night to feed. He was very fussy all the time. I got the baby whisperer book and started to work my way into it. Turns out pretty great. Gives you insight into baby's crys and body language and teaches you ways to start onto a schedule. It may help. It has been a big help to us!
