? and Poll (2nd birthday party theme)

DH and I are having a hard time deciding.  DS is into lots of things and no shows really (other than Oscar the Grouch).  What did you do for DC's 2nd birthday?  What kinds of decorations etc. did you do?  [Poll]

Re: ? and Poll (2nd birthday party theme)

  • My sister just did a pumpkin/farm/fall theme for my nephew's birthday. It was cute and fairly inexpensive. She got the red and white checkered table cloths, had hot dogs and chili in the crockpot, and a few other simple finger foods. For decorations, she got a couple of bales of hay, stuck a scarecrow on each end and hung a multi-colored pendant flag banner across the bales of hay. She bought cheapo cowboy hats for all of the kids (oriental trading company), tiny pumpkins for them to decorate (paint, googly eyes, glitter), and then had a farm/animal-themed bouncy house.

  • Check out kara party ideas they have seriously every idea you can think of (you may find Oscar the grouch there) https://www.karaspartyideas.com/

IMO it depends on how creative you want to be. Trains and  Farm will be easy to find stuff online but Oscar coud be really fun and creative to create.

  • We did a transportation theme.  Bought the transportation wall stickers and put those around in the living room, I figure he can use them in his big boy or in his play room later.  I taped black tablecloth on the floor and used yellow duct tape to make it look like a road, it went from the front door to the living room so the kids could play on it.  We brought Kieran's train table down for the kids to play with and all of his trucks cars and every transportation related toy as well. We bought him one of those mats with the city on it as a gift and had it out with matchbox cars for the kids to play with.  I made cupcakes and had little cupcake toppers with different transportation vehicles on it.  I have one of the trains that spells out his name and had that on the table for decoration as well.

  • I picked "farm" because that's what we did for DD's 2nd birthday.  She was really into farm animals at the time.  We held it at a local farm park and paid for a party package that covers use of their meeting hall, a private tour of the animal area, and a "hayride."  Upon arrival the kids got a cowboy hat and/or bandanna.  We served fried chicken, hard-boiled eggs, pigs in a blanket, salad, mac 'n cheese.  I took store-bought Starbucks frappe bottles and filled them up with chocolate and strawberry milk.  We made labels to wrap around it with a cow's face.  We also had different-flavored cream sodas.  The cake was in the shape of a barn with farm animal cake pops.  Favors were little bags that looked like they were made of bandanna material and a bunch of farm-themed toys and activities, including a pencil with cowboy hats and DD's name on it.

  • I did trains for my older son's 2nd birthday since he loved trains...in fact he loves trains so much that he wanted a train party again for his 4th.

I did not want a Thomas party.   I did generic trains both times.

  • Also, does he have a favorite book.   it's fun to do a party based on a book.  Hungry Caterpillar and Dr. Suess are very easy to do.   I'm hoping to do a party based on Mo Williams Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus at some point for DS2.

  • We had a helicopter birthday party.  He wasn't into any shows and he loved helicopters so we went with that.
  • We did a planes, trains and automobile party for DS's 2nd birthday. It was nice because I used a lot of his toys for decorations!!! AND I made a few craft projects that will now nicely fit into his new big boy room of trains!!!! I made a couple train crossing type signs :)
