Babies: 3 - 6 Months

torticullis

i know some other people posted about their babies having. my dd has a mild case. she gets evaluated after thanksgiving so were on the right path to treating it.

i was just wondering anyone else had any good exercised or tips on how to help her correct this. i know its not helped by her hating tummy time and my fault for not starting earlier.

so far i am trying to her so that if there something interesting to her she has to look to the opposite side and trying to lightly stretch it. also trying to work on tummy time but that is not going well.

TIA

Re: torticullis

  • Are there times she is laying on the floor playing you could wear her instead in a wrap or carrier? This works on a different set of muscle development, gets the head off the ground, and allows baby a chance to still have plenty of stimulation. Also try tummy time on your belly not the floor, or propped up on the boppy pillow. I always liked to put items in front of the boppy and let my DCs look at them/ around while on their tummy on the pillow. It's not the same exactly but in this case would maybe help serve your purpose. GL!

  • DS had it when he was born. We started phys therapy around 4 weeks and graduated at 10w. Do lots of tummy time either on the floor, your chest, or on a boppy. Lay baby down on their back and try to get them to follow a rattle or your voice from side to side. Also lay baby in your lap and gently pull their head so their right ear goes toward their right shoulder and then do the left side for a few seconds.

  • thanks for the advice the laying on my legs and adjusting her head that way is a good idea. She is so stubborn she doesnt even like laying on my stomach. I got her to do some tummy time at my sis-in-laws today cause she was watching my neice play. Almost got 10mins! Big plus for us.

I dont carry her much at home just because she does have a nice shaped head. so she doesnt seem to be creating any flat spots. It is a good idea if I cant get enough belly time out of her.

    Thanks!

  • All of the above.  Plus, my DD is seeing an occupational therapist 1-2 times a week.  Insurance covers it.
