Lately I've been looking up hospitals and none seem to do the IV free birth I'm looking for. But then I came across a birthing center that does natural and IV free! But I've always delivered in a hospital. So is there a difference between a hospital and a birthing center but here is the thing, I'm having twins. Can that ruin it of having it in a birthing center? Has anyone had twins in a birthing center? I'm wanting to know so I can make my choice.
Re: Birthing center or hospital?
I honestly don't know about the twins thing! You should call them up, ask the twins question, and go take a tour and ask all your other questions. You'll get a first-hand view of the differences, which is really hard to communicate on a message board. Then you'll be able to decide what fits better with the way YOU labor, your personal approach, and the special circumstances of having twins. Make sure, if it is allowed to have twins there, that you know what their transfer procedures are if it becomes necessary.
I think it's going to depend on the BC - mine won't deliver twins (although one of the midwives will still attend your hospital birth if you are their patient). I think you are going to have to just ask and see.
IMO IV free isn't a deal breaker. I had a heplock for both births (I took the IV antibiotics for being GBS+) - it was slightly annoying but not something I noticed once I was really in labor. I would be more concerned about the fact that some hospitals have a policy of requiring an epi for twin births or require delivery in an OR even if you are planning a vaginal birth.
