3 year old c/o belly ache at night?

My 3 year old has started complaining of a belly ache almost every night. Usually it's at bedtime and we've put it off to her not wanting to go to bed. Tonight it was around 5. She went to the potty and ate her dinner and now is starting again. Could it be just a phase or an attention thing? I can remember being scared to death of getting sick as a child and I hope she won't go through the same thing. I'm also wondering if she's having trouble dealing with all the changes we've had with moving in a new house and preparing for her little brother. Any advice would be helpful :)

Re: 3 year old c/o belly ache at night?

  • DS will be 3 in a couple of weeks, and for the past few months has been complaining often of having a stomach ache.  It worried me at first, but he has been eating and going to the bathroom normally, and has had no other symptoms. He doesn't complain about it at daycare, according to his teacher.  It also coincided with the birth of his baby brother, so I think a lot of it has been an attention-seeking thing.  The complaining seems to have subsided a bit, so hopefully it is a phase on the way out.  Hopefully your DD is okay!

  • Is she pooping regularly?  Other idea is reflux.  We think DS1 gets a little reflux.

  • Maybe she's going through a growth spurt and she's hungry. (If she complains later, even an hour or two after dinner.)

  • I'm with you 3 yr old says my belly hurts me too. And now says her foot hurts her too lol. She's killing me making me crazy. I'm guessing just a phase. I hope.
