15 month old waking at 3AM every morning

My son is a little over 15 months old and is waking up at 3am every morning like clock work.  At the beginning of October my husband and I started taking him to daycare.  After 1.5 weeks at daycare he got sick.  He's been sick off and on for the past month and would wake up around 3am and just cry and cry.  My husband and I felt so bad for him because he was sick so one of uswould get up and bring him back to bed with us.  Now that he's feeling better we don't want to bring him into bed with us, but of course he wants to know.  He know wakes up around 3am every morning just crying.  We've been trying to let him cry it out, but that isn't working.  Last night he cried for 2.5 hours straight before my husband couldn't take it anymore and got up with him.  We go in every 20 - 30 mins or so to rub his back and let him know mommy and daddy are close by so he doesn't feel abandonded or neglected.  I'm 28 weeks pregnant and would like to get this fixed by the time his little sister arrives.  Has anyone had this happen to them before?  Any tips on how to get him to go back to sleep?

  • My DD is waking up every day or every other day at 4. She hasn't been sick or anything this just started last week and she starts whining and then crying I get her and put her back to sleep co sleep. I don't know what to do either and I'm also 28 weeks pregnant.

  • Thats tough. Id continue with crying it out as long as you can, eventually he will tire himself out. Does he maybe have an ear infection or anything like that?

  • This has been an ongoing problem in our house, pretty much feels like forever.

We also go with the CIO approach, and at its been hard.  Somenights he will cry for over and hour or more.  We also go in and calm.

I have no advice, I'm sorry.  Just sympathy!  Would love to hear responses.  GL!

  • Alexa just went through the exact same thing. She was sick for a few days and waking a lot, then teething bad for a few days. It took over a month to get back to normal sleep! She was waking up around 5am but I'd just give her some milk and she'd go right but to sleep.
