Addressing Envelopes

So I am putting together my labels for Christmas cards and I feel that I have a lot more couples with children this year than ever before...

I normally always addressed my envelopes by hand but this year doing labels...

I always did it this way:

Mr. & Mrs. Robert Smith & Family or Mr. & Mrs. R. Smith & Family

But it doesn't all fit on the label.....

So I have seen it done this way:

The Smith Family

I always thought it should be addressed to the adults first and the family would be the children...

What do you ladies do? Is it acceptable to do it the second way or should I stick with what I always did.

Re: Addressing Envelopes

  • I do The Smith Family if they have kids...

if it's a couple I would write Mr. and Mrs. Smith or John and Sally Smith

  • I would do Smith Family - I view Christmas Cards as casual. That may be wrong, but I send Christmas cards every year and I am not going to worry about the proper way to do things. I do a laid back version unlike the wedding invites and thank yous.

This.  It's how I did my wedding invitations and baby announcements.

  • You're over thinking it. I really don't think anybody would care either way. And if they did they really need to find something better to do.

  • I think Mr and Mrs is way too formal for holiday cards.  I'd put The Smith Family and if they don't have kids I'd put Mike and Mary Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. is for wedding invites.
