I'm thinking about going out to find a part time job, but I'm nervous about the whole thing. One, I don't want to be treated like a low life, since I have found in the past when working PT jobs, management treats you as such. Two, I'd like to find something with part time benefits for my son & I. Thirdly, I don't want to work every stinking holiday and every weekend. Every other weekend, okay, but I'd like to see my husband sometimes too. Is this a lost cause?
Where do you work?
Do you get benefits?
Do you have health insurance through your company, your husband's or did you purchase outright?
How much do you pay for what type of plan per month?
Re: Anybody work part time?
I do, but I turned a full-time job into a part-time job. It's a professional job at a company that's normally an 8-to-5 gig, so I'm not sure that I'll be much help.
Do you work now? Would that place let you go part-time?
I have always been PT at a large university. The other time I work for myself though. I do get benefits. You need to work at least 50% at the university to qualify. It's the main reason I took the job because the benefits for a large public university are fantastic. I pay $450 I think a month for DH, DD and me and the university pays over $1,000/mo). It's a HMO plan but everything is cheap and the dr. are great (affiliated with University). I had a choice of 7 plans but chose this one. If we make more money, I'll switch back to the plan I was on when I was single (hybrid HMO/PPO).
Hope that helps. I stay at this job because of the benefits. MY DH's insurance isn't even close (he works at a small co.)

ditto this exactly! I will say our company (huge company) does offer benefits for those at 32 hrs and above. I don't take them because of my husband--but they are offered.
