Those with SIUGR

(I also posted this question on the high risk board). We have mono/di Twins whose placentas/gestational sacs  fused together really early, like before 6 weeks. At 15 weeks, we found a 37% growth discordance. At 19 weeks it increased to 43%. Baby a (our girl) is growth restricted and about 2 weeks behind. Baby b(our boy) is 2 days ahead. No signs of ttts but being monitored closely. My question  is, has anyone else had such a large discordance this early in the pregnancy? Our MFM said that if it was Later it would be more manageable, but she has never seen a growth restriction this big so early have a good outcome.  she is expecting baby a will pass.  We had an amnio on both, results were good. We also did cord Doppler readings yesterday and flow is good, cords are 3 vessel and attached. Any insight is soooo appreciated.Thank you!

  • No advice but sending prayers for you and little Baby A. I'm sorry.....growth discordances are scary, and I can only imagine the pain and anxiety you have to be feeling right now. *hugs*

  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry to hear of the large growth discordance.  I have no experience with it, but I do want to send you and the babies my T&P for a good outcome.

  • I am so very sorry to hear this Sad

Mine didn't happen until a little later and not as severe.  There was a mama on here a few months ago who had mono/di twins with a very large discordance early on like you.  They diagnosed SIUGR and atypical stage III TTTS.  Unfortunately they lost the smaller twin but I believe the other twin went on growing healthy.  The thing I would ask about is how a fetal demise will affect the other twin.  If they are true mono/di with shared blood connections in the placenta there can be negative effects on the surviving twin (death and severe disability).   On a personal note, I was also told at one point that one of boys wasn't expected to survive but the MFM was wrong - not saying this always happens but sometimes medical people give the worst case scenario and aren't always right.  Praying for you!

  • We had a late growth difference of 3%-95% at 30 weeks, so no advice. Praying for you & your babies.

  • We had IUGR, but it was late in the pregnancy so not the same issue.  I'm sorry I don't have advice or insight.

You and your little twin will be in my prayers.
