Natural Birth

Has anyone here used the midwives at UCLA for birth?

My husband feels like this is a good compromise - I wouldn't object to a birth center birth, but he likes the security of the hospital. UCLA has a nurse-midwife practice and they boast a very high rate of unmedicated birth. Has anyone delivered there? If so, was it a good experience? Thanks in advance!

  • I have not yet, but will be in about 4 weeks, I'm 36 weeks. This is my second, i had my first in Tarzana with an OB, was induced and almost ended up with a c section. I have heard great things about the midwives, both from women who have birthed there as well as from two doulas and a trusted lactation consultant who works with them.

This is great! I love my OB, but he practices out of Cedars (which didn't get the nickname C-Section Cedars by accident) so I'm thinking of switching over. I am looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

  • No kidding about Cedars! The midwives have a fairly low csection rate.  So far all of the natural measures I've brought up, they say is standard practice, including going to 42 weeks, not resorting to pitocin for induction, instead using a cervical ripening agent, which my OB didn't even mention with my first, also hep lock is standard.  I belong to an LA/Socal Facebook mommy group and a lot if the moms there have delivered and love the midwives.  If you're interested in joining the group, i can add you, though we would need to friend on FB first.

Thank you for all this info! The hep lock is a big deal to me - I really don't want an IV. I hear they have informational sessions. I'm going to see if I can get into a scheduled one a little further along in my pregnancy.

I'm not on FB anymore (haven't logged in to it in ages). I will message you here if I get up and running on there again.

    Thank you again!
